Sounds plausible.
But there are other effects, which will make it difficult to explore the causes.
When I open any svg file (I tested it with several) in Inkscape, Inkscape crashes after one or two "interactions".
Example of an interaction: I opened the XML Editor. I increased the width of the XML Editor window. Inkscape crashes. Reproducable.
Uff.
I hope there is a solution.
