If I remember right, to get Inkscape to print landscape, you have to both set the printer option to landscape *and* set landscape mode in Document Preferences. Have you checked both places?

Yes, I've set them in both places. I use kprinter to get to the printer settings. As for Inkscape, unless landscape is set in the Document preferences, your page will still be in portrait mode, and look like in portrait mode. Still can't print in landscape though.
Hrm. I'm not sure in this case, then. I've been able to successfully print in landscape on the printers I use, but admittedly Inkscape's printer support has a lot of bugs.
You could send in a bug report, although honestly the printer code hasn't tended to get much developer attention. If you know C and are bugged enough about the behavior, the printing code is in src/print.cpp. I don't know how it works, and there's no obvious flags being set for landscape/portrait, so it might take some experimentation to get it working right.
