Using a slightly obsolete version of Slackware (13.0) and my Sony Multiscan G520 monitor I can have a screen of 2080 x 1024 and a viewport of 640 x 480. With a simple key sequence I can cycle through the various sizes. So I can stretch the Inkscape window to fill the entire 2080 x 1024 space but view it in magnified form through the viewport. So I don't need to remove toolbars.
