The thing about viruses is that they don't have to infect your machine
to propagate. You could have a document with a virus, back it up,
delete it from your machine and years later, retrieve it and send it to
someone else who's machine it infects. Just like real viruses, computer
ones can lie dormant for years, even decades (they haven't been around
for centuries yet), and still infect others.
I also dislike using propriety file formats, well, propriety anything
and avoid them.
