We discussed the way to give such feedback long ago, and I had an idea, but was too lazy to file a RFE, so now I just implemented it so it's not forgotten :)
Now each object-creating tool has a standard style widget at the right end of its controls bar, reflecting the style that the next created object will have. This gives you an idea of your "brush" before you start drawing, and it updates when you click on the palette with nothing selected. Both last-set and tool-fixed styles are correctly shown, and the widget is updated when you switch between the two.
Now, this thing also needs a text label before it, but I think this could wait until our toolbars are not fixed-width and thus adding stuff does not blow up the window.
