The 3D Box tool is interesting but I think the Effects->Render->Gear... is more fun.

Try this :) 1. draw a (straight line) path with a couple of knots 2. press ctrl+shift+7 ("&") (opens Live Path Effect dialog) 3. apply the Gear effect 4. press F2 and drag knots around and see what happens :-)
