Scatter? Oh wow, I had no idea that's what that extension would do! I thought it was something like tiled clones, except that it produces a random arrangement of objects within a certain space or area.
In this case, there is no distortion at all! Only near the points where the circles overlap a little bit. So this is a MUCH better solution.

You could also use the scatter extension, in that case (if you need to 'destroy' the LPE anyway, it won't make a difference that you can not edit it live...)
