[Inkscape-user] Shell and Command line driven?

Hi, I am investigating driving inkscape through the shell/command line interface. But i am not sure what capabilities are or how to access them. The verb-list looks enticing but i don't see how to specify parameters.

The documentation talks about converting formats and flipping an existing image. That is fine, but i want to do far more. Like create numerous objects, change their colours and then finally save it.

Is that even possible?

Does anyone have any samples or can point me at an example so i can get started?
