I am still using .46 as I find it easier for some of the effects I want to get. Is there any way I can test the new version and still keep .46 on my computer to use ?
Compile it but don't do a make install. Run inkscape .48 from inside the src directory. Or run ./configure --prefix=~/inkscape0.48 && make && make install and you will find inkscape in ~/inkscape0.48/bin.

Hmm, so it will run in userspace. I didn't know that. I find it can be very useful having programs that can do that.

Say you have a poem and I have a tune.
Exchange them and we can both have a poem, a tune, and a song.
