I'd suggest a Web search for 'poster design' and some reading before you start. A quick search just now turned up some useful university Web sites.
I'd be inclined to use OpenOffice.org (Writer or Impress) for the overall poster and import from Inkscape, GIMP and Gnuplot for the graphical bits, but Inkscape may also work for the whole thing. I'm not familiar with Scribus.

Hello Zubin, when you say poster, which size do you have in mind? You need to figure out who can print this for you (if you need to have it in one piece). The person who prints will give you the requirements (file-format, etc) You might end up using scribus for the file export. hth, Adib.
