i'm not sure i understand your problem, but you can transform curves to shapes (stroke to path)

there are some cases when librsvg does not render correctly some images (in my experience, some of those cases appear when using complex gradients). those should be reported as bugs in librsvg.

the toolbars? Like I said, I'm working to help an icon theme and it would be supremely cool if we could theme Inkscape. Kind of a hat-tipping to the program that helps us make good icons all around.... :)
yes, look for the file icons.svg (mine is placed in /usr/share/inkscape/icons). do not forget to preserve group names after editing.
