Hello all... Sorry if this question is unclear/confusing and if it is rather simple, but for the life of me, I've not been able to do it.
I have a closed path (by that I mean a shape with a "closed" border, a border in all faces), my problem is that I want to add a line which crosses the shape from one side to the other, but I want to do it so that the line seems to be a continuation of the border (and ideally become part of the shape or object), the problem is that I don't know how could I do this? Heck, I'm not sure if I make any sense at all... Thus far I've tried drawing a single line with the bezier tool, but trying to "merge" the line with the rest of the shape using the stroke tools doesn't yield the desired effect... And I'm quickly running out of ideas, maybe what I want is not possible and I'll have to manage both parts (the shape and the line) as different objects grouped together, or it is possible, but I haven't found how... Any hints?
Here's my thoughts on your issue.
I think you want to use pattern along path to solve this. This is what you need to realize thought. Your pattern along path will not define a "fillable" border. The pattern along path will be its own shape with it's own fill and stroke properties. You can make it look like it's filled by putting color behind it.
I've attached an example.
1. Make square with rectangle tool. 2. Object to path. 3. Draw bezier curve. 4. Group Paths. 5. Make "brush" - circle tool, object to path, add lots of nodes. 6. Pattern along path - setting single, stretch, snake. 7. Adjust nodes to clean up effect if desired.
Hope it helps.

Thanks this is actually what I was looking for... Plus you've given me some ideas on how to further add to the shape.
Forgot the file. Hate it when I do that.

We used a text and a bounding box.
But after transformation the text is no longer horizontal but vertical. How can we change that behavior?

Hi Joop,
I gues you should try it with the ENVELOPE effect instead of the PERSPECTIVE effect.
I tried it and i could make it with that. (Select first the bounding box, then add the text to selection, then choose 'Effect / Modify Path / Envelope' menu.

Draw your bounding box with the Bezier tool starting from the lower left corner. Draw in a clockwise direction. The order of the nodes in the bounding box path determines the orientation of the text. There is a small note in the book about this. I will emphasize this more in the next version of the book.
You can check which is the first node in your path by selecting the path with the node tool (but not selecting any particular node) and hitting the Tab key. (The Tab key cycles through the nodes of a path starting with the first node if no node is selected.)
