Hi Everybody
I am relatively inexperienced with inkscape, but so far I find it very intuitive and love the behavior of the program. I also saw Martin Owens' video and am very impressed about the ease of use. It is really good as is, but one additional feature I can think of may be to spread out the elements to a specified width / height with equal distances between each other as an optional step after the alignment. But again it is great as is.
I do have one question. I'm not sure if this is specific to my computer, but when I save a file in svg it does not matter if the plain of the inkscape version, I don't see the file neither in qgis (where I want to use the file) nor in explorer or gimp. After I close and reopen inkscape, the file is there and intact. But still no other program seems to be able to see the file.
I would be very thankful if someone could please get me on the right track.
Thanks for your time
Jake

If you also do not see the files in Explorer, are you absolutely 100% sure that you're looking in the right directory? Especially under Windows the various "User", "(My) Documents", "Public Documents", "My Pictures", etc. directories can get a bit confusing at times. Also, if you indeed use Windows, you may want to explicitly choose a directory for saving the files, and avoid saving it in "Libraries" (in principle it should be fine to save them there, but since they essentially aggregate files from different directories it can be a bit confusing).
Thank you Jasper, that is a very good point, and I looked back and forth for the files. It should be in a qgis weekly sub folder, and I searched for it with the find function, and looked so often in the directory because I just didn't want to believe what I saw (or better did not see). I did create some other files and 2 of the files do show up, but not the one I am looking for. I'll try to run chkdsk, it's just that otherwise the computer seems to run fine. Jake
