Re: [Inkscape-user] disappearing files
It could also be something strange with the names of the files? Perhaps they are hidden from view by explorer? Or perhaps there are strange characters in the name that prevent them from showing up? Try changing the "view" of the folder between "list" and "icon" display...?
Try also saving to a different directory like your desktop - i.e. is it all directories or just that one directory that is having an issue?

Thank you Jasper, that is a very good point, and I looked back and forth for the files. It should be in a qgis weekly sub folder, and I searched for it with the find function, and looked so often in the directory because I just didn't want to believe what I saw (or better did not see). I did create some other files and 2 of the files do show up, but not the one I am looking for. I'll try to run chkdsk, it's just that otherwise the computer seems to run fine. Jake

I'm not sure if this is specific to my computer, but when I save a file in svg it does not matter if the plain of the inkscape version, I don't see the file neither in qgis (where I want to use the file) nor in explorer or gimp. After I close and reopen inkscape, the file is there and intact. But still no other program seems to be able to see the file. ...
If you also do not see the files in Explorer, are you absolutely 100% sure that you're looking in the right directory? Especially under Windows the various "User", "(My) Documents", "Public Documents", "My Pictures", etc. directories can get a bit confusing at times. Also, if you indeed use Windows, you may want to explicitly choose a directory for saving the files, and avoid saving it in "Libraries" (in principle it should be fine to save them there, but since they essentially aggregate files from different directories it can be a bit confusing).

Some tools also show only a specific file type when listing a directory. And sometimes it's the wrong type. Does it help to get it to list *all* file types?

Thanks Chris and Hendrik I have 'show hidden files' checked in explorer. I also just did a thorough chkdsk to see if anything got corrupted. It came out clean. This is all on my windows desktop. I also have a laptop with ubuntu and will try it there and look how that will work. I'll report back once if get further along with the problem. I did try to save it as a inkscape svg and as a plain svg in different directories, all with the same result J
