Greetings, All! [*cheery wave*]
I hope this is the proper place to ask. If not, please direct me to the correct list.
I've been using Inkscape on Kubuntu for several years. Most of my previous applications have been minor things such as business cards, posters and photo collections.
Recently, I've started working on some cardstock scale modeling projects. These involve lots of pattern files from photographs. Just the last few days, I've had to restart Inkscape dozens of times. It crashes when I have an irregular shape with a pattern fill and try to move nodes. The second or third node I move causes the program to report an error and then crash. I've found a few work arounds so I can complete my project, but it has been a pain.
Here's my current setup.
- AMD processor, Asus MB, 4Gb RAM, 1.5Tb HD, NVIDIA (onboard MB), 24" LCD monitor. - Kubuntu 10.04 with all current patches. - Inkscape vs 0.47
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
*Happy Holidays!*

This is a known bug in 0.47 which has been fixed in the current stable version of Inkscape (0.48):

I just when to the Ubuntu Software Centre and added some plugins for Inkscape. While it was at it, it updated the version. I was wondering why this update wasn't part of the regular updates that the OS checks for every day.
Thanks, everyone!
While I was working earlier, my system crashed. I'm thinking all the incremental crashes did something nasty. The short of it is that I unplugged that drive, grabbed a new drive I had handy and installed Kubuntu 10.10. with Inkscape 0.48. Now, I just have to try and recover all my files from the old drive. [deep sigh] I'll be busy the rest of the night, methinks.
Happy holidays and thanks again for the feedback.

I have a similar setup and I noticed that Inkscape (version 0.47) crashes only after I Crtl-Z (undo). If I don't do that, it works fine. Of course, the little bit I use it for is definitely not a stress test. :)

We have a bug tracker at: http://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/ Although it's not necessarily a bad idea to also mail to the mailing list, you should make sure to always file your bug there, as that will prevent the bug from being forgotten. It could also be that someone else has had the same problem and that either the bug report contains information (like a work around) that's useful for you, or that you can add further information that could be useful to others (including further details on how to reproduce the bug).

The simplest and most obvious suggestion I can come up with right now is that you may want to try Inkscape 0.48.
