I was dinking around around with filters again (can't seem to stop playing with them). By adding an feColorMatrix filter and adjusting the saturation only I was able to turn a color jpeg image into a grayscale image. That got me thinking...is this the best way to apply grayscale to a picture? Seems like I would want to do this with the Raster effects instead but I do not see it at first glance.
Have any of you needed or wanted to apply grayscale to something in Inkscape? How do you go about it?

I'm personally in favor of the filter method because I like non-destructive editing. I haven't had the need to do anything grayscale in inkscape in a while, but this would be the method I would personally use.

Heathenx, I would probably pull it out as a pdf and change it in Xara if I wanted to retain vectors. As a raster I'd pull it out as a png and change it in almost any raster program. I have not had to do it often enough to work out an Inkscape method but the filter method sounds good.
