Inkscape 0.46 pre 1 tarball created
Howdy Inkscapers!
While we're not quite to the point of a release, we're getting close enough to see the second pre-release of the much-awaited 0.46 release of Inkscape. The files can be found here:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=93438&package_id=9...
With these MD5 sums:
2b3b31cb92c558a68534f190d31b0d72 inkscape-0.45.1+0.46pre1.tar.bz2 90c77e005d0e3d845f0c196e7843a6da inkscape-0.45.1+0.46pre1.tar.bz2.sig 83c8653d3ca4d9cd46e730d9adf8c669 inkscape-0.45.1+0.46pre1.tar.gz e4f7f4b9ef24925cee7a8964e7e671e6 inkscape-0.45.1+0.46pre1.tar.gz.sig cff35c0f01671837f33f4bc19675decd inkscape-0.45.1+0.46pre1.zip 7b55ec81c1824f503fc4c8b6acb90f9f inkscape-0.45.1+0.46pre1.zip.sig
Packages will hopefully start appearing shortly.

Ted,
On F8 and after installing gc-7.0.tar.gz, configure got as far as:
checking for INKSCAPE... configure: error: Package requirements (gdkmm-2.4 glibmm-2.4 gtkmm-2.4 >= 2.10.0 gtk+-2.0 libxml-2.0 >= 2.6.11 libxslt >= 1.0.15 cairo sigc++-2.0 >= 2.0.12 gthread-2.0 >= 2.0 libpng >= 1.2) were not met:
No package 'gdkmm-2.4' found No package 'glibmm-2.4' found No package 'gtkmm-2.4' found No package 'sigc++-2.0' found
From Googling, this is apparently a bug?
Any chance of someone producing a F8 rpm?
Thanks,
Phil.

It is likely that you need additional development packages. Considering the set that you're missing you probably only need to install something like "gtkmm-2.4-dev" or "gtkmm-2.4-devel".
It's not a bug, it's a very apt warning :)

The previous Fedora packager left the project, I'm unsure if someone from the Fedora project has decided to replace him. I hope so.

Yes, Inkscape is too important for Fedora to not have some direct involvement.
Anyway, unlike many previous attempts to build Inkscape from source or a package install, this time it finally worked! However, the facility I was hanging out for - PDF import - still seems to be missing?
Thanks,
Phil.

The PDF import works great with the Mac version. That inability of this to work on Linux has kept me on the Mac platform. I guess the premiere place for open source software is the Mac platform, not Linux.

Chances are you need the libpoppler development package are. If you look at the end of your ./configure script it'll tell you what it's planning to install and not.

Good call! It is importing fantastically now! The only thing I have noticed on some pages is the font is not quite right (the characters in words are not spaced exactly like the original) - maybe I don't have exactly the right fonts installed on F8.
Thanks to all the people who have been working on this - it is a great tool!
Regards,
Phil.
