Google Summer of Code 2016
Hey all,
I just wanted to let everyone know that Inkscape was accepted as a mentoring organization for GSoC this year. This will be our 11th year participating. Google has transitioned from Melange to a new site (1) this year if you're interested in reading more about it.
If you are interested in participating as a student please visit our page (2) on Google's new Summer of Code site to find links to our Ideas for summer projects on our wiki and our developer mailing list. As usual, please either introduce yourself on our developer mailing list or let us know what you're interested in working on this year. Student application don't open until the 14th, so now is the time to be talking to us if you are interested in working with us.
If anyone has any questions, please ask away.
Cheers, Josh

A nice to have would be the PDF files with choosable CMYK or RGB color coding.
I like inkscape very much. But the PDF images while looking nice on my screen always have a wrong color when printed by the publisher.
When one would be able to choose the output, then the publisher would to have to stick to the color I wanted and not the one, some translation program choose.
My 5 cent.
Bernhard

There is a thread on Reddid with a lot of user wishes, maybe some of them could be worken on in the GSC (Im + 1000 for proper CMYK and Spot inks, bleeds, crop marks, etc): What Inkscape really needs? • /r/Inkscape

I just want to clarify since two users have commented in this thread with recommendations of what should be worked on. This is NOT a thread for people to post wishlist items. This announcement is about our organization's participation in GSoC 2016 and to let potential student participants know we will be mentoring and to ask any questions they might have.
The students are the ones who make proposals, we do not have any control over what proposals they will make. Implementing CMYK or spot colors natively rather than via the currently available CMYK workflow is definitely outside the scope of a summer of code project. We've already had 2 previous summer of code projects dedicated to color management related issues and users still aren't satisfied (trust me it's a HUGE undertaking, if it wasn't, it would be implemented already).
Cheers, Josh
