Two questions about paths and node sculpting
Hi,
some comment in another thread reminded me that I always wanted to ask:
- Can I make a path (created from text) fit in a shape (for example like in this image from a German FontWork article: http://www.ooowiki.de/FontWork/SchriftMitBild?action=AttachFile&do=get&a... Would I use node sculpting for this? If yes, how would I go about it? If no, is there another way?
- Suppose I select only the nodes in the upper part of a shape and drag one from the top further upwards (with "Alt" pressed for node sculpting). How do I get the other selected nodes to "distribute" evenly between the node being dragged and the fixed nodes?
Thank you, Elfi
PS: I would have liked to search the list archives first but have problems accessing them (I'm getting a page saying "No Forum Chosen")
Well, I just tried doing what you describe with the node sculpting thing. I think it is possible, but it would take a bit of tinkering. However the lattice idea I mentioned would make something like that a cakewalk, I think.

Just for the heck of it...
I made the word you posted with Inkscape text. I converted the text to a path.
I then imported the path into Blender. It did some squirrely stuff with the "u" letter, but for this it doesn't matter. I then added a lattice modifier to the text and stretched out the verts of the lattice as shown. As you can see, the lettering looks pretty much just like the example you posted.

Maybe text on path can do what you want? I would have to try it out first, but maybe it is doable...
Text on path is a powerful tool, but I don't think it's going produce the desired effect for this application. Sure, you can make the text curve up and down, but only one direction at a time.
Anyone have a good tutorial on the envelope effect? I would think that if anything currently in inkscape would be the appropriate tool to create this effect, this would be it. If you've this effect successfully in Xtara Xtreme.
