I need Inkscape success stories from everywhere
Hi there! I want to introduce Inkscape to the SENA http://www.sena.edu.co/portaloffice here in Cartagena de Indias http://www.flickr.com/photos/mariedoucet/sets/72157611795508388/. The SENA is the national service for training people in several trades. The goal is to convince them to try Inkscape and use it as the program of choice for graphic design courses. I have got technical info and examples, now I need all your Inkscape success stories from everywhere -specially on developing countries and Latin America- about Inkscape achievements and use in working, running business and being involved in big events or campaigns. By the way, a database of succes stories should be built.
I'm Joe Ward, editor of a small neighborhood newsletter in Louisville, Kentucky. For some years I've been trying to recruit and train a successor for when I move on from this volunteer job. It has been a real obstacle to my progress that the good layout programs all cost a lot of money. People are willing to help their neighborhood, but not if it costs $200 or more. I heard about Scribus, so I downloaded it, and with the help of a lot of people in the online user community, I managed to learn enough in a couple of weeks to get the first newsletter out using it. Then I got a second one out, and found a woman interested in having a look at what would be involved in being editor. She had been putting out an even smaller newsletter, using Microsoft Word. She immediately fell in love with the way Scribus does things such as permit you to link text boxes, even when they aren't on the same page. She has remained enthuastic, and now does chores faster than I can assign them to her. Scribus, Inkscape and the GIMP all have a bright future with our organization, the Crescent Hill Community Council.

Then I believe you are familiar with this recent, but very cool, success story: http://gould.cx/ted/blog/Inkscape_works_on_Cancer
I can tell about how us at Fedora[1] are happy with Inkscape, along with GIMP, as a primarily tool for doing our day to day work. With Fedora 10 we got more into raster graphics, so GIMP was used more than usual, but in Fedora 8 and Fedora 9 Inkscape was the most used tool for distribution specific graphics[2] [3], from wallpapers to slashes to website banners.
We use it also for website mock-ups[4], posters[5] [6], t-shirts[7], CD/DVD labels[8], stickers[9] [10] and more. Sometime we use other applications in connection with Inkscape for finishing, like adding an effect with GIMP or prepare for professional print with Scribus.
Of course, we use it a lot fo create icons [11].

Thank you so much. Could you please write your stories as a paragraph and include some photos so I can add them to the presentation for the SENA people? I'd really appreciate it. They could also be used for a success stories database later. Thanks in advance.

Hello; My name is Jim Jones. I have a humble blog called 'Cartooning and Illustration'
which is at cartoons-jim.blogspot.com. A lot of the cartoons and images of this blog were done in Inkscape.

Well, this isn't a business story, but:
We recently built a home. I used Inkscape to design the top-view plans. I had a canvas set to a 1m scale and did everything life-size. Walls, doors, electrics, water were all drawn on their own layers.
With Inkscape, I could draw our furniture and lay it out; see which rooms had to be larger, which smaller. I used it to design the 'flow'--or how we would move from space to space.
After that, I actually printed out A4 pages and gave them to our builder who used them to do the job!
We only had to go to a professional draughtsman for municipal approval -- Inkscape saved us a lot of money because we were in control and could change things quickly.
Other than that, I use it all the time for any kind of design. I have no proprietary software any more.

I use Inkscape and GIMP, as a pair, for personal and business use (mostly webdesign).
Along with Scribus I made this magazine for the School I work with http://194.210.67.7/escola/docs/revista/a_Rocha_01.pdf
Touristic T-Shirts Se attach Zip File
I made the layout os these sites (layout + all graphic images) http://www.didalvi.pt/index.php
http://www.didalvi.pt/quinta/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1 (layout + all graphic images) The logo was all made with Inkscape from scatch

Video Tutorials (portuguese Sorry) work in progress... http://sites.google.com/site/chezplacide/Home (layout + all graphic images + Tutorials of course)
By the way nice City!
