sadness for photorealistic artists
Hi Friends, As much as I'm SO happy with the new renderer that Inkscape acquired new in 0.91, it seems to have taken away the ability to see the pixels, which I rely on to locate the precise edges of of shapes, and to get accurate colors (with Dropper tool), for photorealistic work. When viewing raster images or photos, there are no pixels to be seen, even zoomed in to 25,600%!! So I may have to tweak my workflow for that. And I guess I'll have to go back to 0.48.5 to finish my in-progress drawings. I might even have to give up photorealistic drawing, because it's impossible to find the precise edges of objects, when the colors are quite similar! I suppose there will be no compromise possible -- to have the nice performance of the new renderer, yet still be able to see the pixels of photos or raster images?
Thanks for any comments :-)

When importing bitmaps or in the bitmap section of the settings you can select "Blocky (optimize Speed)" as method for bitmap scaling. I use it all the time for picking colors from sprites.

Ok, thanks Alexander Brock. That does seem to give me the pixels again! But what about images that are already imported, and actually I started on the image in....maybe even 0.47.
I guess I would just have to import it again? I don't remember if I scaled it before, or changed it at all. I guess I'll just have to play around with it, and hope I can get it aligned exactly as before.
Thank you very much!

For existing files, select an imported image and open Object Properties (Ctrl+Shift+O or right click and choose from context menu) and there is an image rendering option. No need to re-import things.

Oh good, I'll try that. Because I just tried re-importing, but the pixels, while the same size, aren't the same colors! Wait, I'll try now....
Oh yes, that's very close, if not identical! I'll check with Dropper tool....
Looks to be identical! Happy Dance!!
Thank you all so much :-D
