I've never used inkscape before. I would like to design a logo for the band almost identical to this http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00008WJBF.01.THUMBZZZ.jpg But with a curve in the middle.
Should I scour the web for a font or is it feasible to draw this myself?
Thanks for any advice,
Jarlath

If you by any reason cannot find an appropriate font, I encourage you to use FontForge (fontforge.sf.net) to draw your own font. However, drawing fonts definitely requires some knowledge about fonts.

I think it is easy to do using Inkscapes "trace bitmap by color"-feature (-> import bitmap-image into Inkscape, then choose path
trace bitmap).

Probably to trace is best, if that does not work, I did the attached in 10 minutes ( I could not read your sample but thought it was something like this):
1. Enter the text 2. Shear it with the selection tool - click once to allow to shear 3. Convert: Path > Object 4. Path > Simplify 5. Edit as required using the path edit tool and node handles 6. Fill/stroke colour as required

Thanks everyone, I think I'll try Adams way first (easiest learning curve). I basically dont want to offend a student graphic designer if I dont like what they do, so I'd rather do it myself.
Kind Regards,
Jarlath
