Hi all,
I thought of posting this to the list. This is a photo I edited using Inkscape (vector shapes & eye shadow):
Cheers,
Claus
Incredible. If you hadn't told us the eye shadow was done in Inkscape I never would have guessed it.

So you first made it in GIMP then edited it in Inkscape? Or vice-versa? How did you manage to get SVG to work in GIMP? The only SVG export plugin I found for GIMP doesn't work. Sorry if this is OT.
Hallo Programmer In Training,
How did you manage to get SVG to work in GIMP?
I tested it right now. It works perfectly at least with Gimp 2.7: I just pulled the svg-file in the Gimp-window, clicked OK - ready.

I can import SVG into GIMP no problem, it's editing and then saving it as an SVG that's my problem. (:

Gimp renders the svg, when it's imported. You can't save it as svg anymore.
Hago
Yeah, I assumed that much. It's too bad really.

Gimp is a bitmap program. It can't produce vector art.

I've gathered that much, thank you.

That's what inkscape is for, actually. I've suggested (long ago) to the gegl people that they include ways of rendering SVG, since there seemed to be a possibility that their framework could be made to accomodating it, but they seemed to think they had enough on their plate already to consider proposals out of left field.

First ,I edited the photo im Gimp 2.6, and then imported it into Inkscape as a TIFF, After drawing the vector shapes there, I selected "All", exported this as a PNG and did some final editing (resampling; adding border & copyright note) in Gimp.

Some time ago, I wrote a post on my blog on a similar technique, using both Inkscape & CinePaint (minor retouching & to add some noise):

Sorry, because this post is in German, but there are a few screenshots to illustrate what I did.

Hi all,
here's another example of the application of Inkscape 0.46 for photo retouching. I did thsi one yesterday and assembled a JPG showing the different stages of editing. After working in Inkscape, I imported the PNG into Gimp to do some final retouching, add some HSV noise, adjusting 'levels' & apply an advanced Unsharp Mask.
The keys for this editing technique are
a) that the inserted SVG pieces are somewhat blurred, and b) that the opacity is somewhat reduced. In addition, I used a few gradients where the color distribution was not even. Right on top of the image, I've put two details: a) before, and b) after editing. I find that this approach works better (at least for me) than mere bitmap editing using the clone brush, etc.
