does this need to be reported or commented as bugs?
Hi Friends, I've come across some wrong behavior that's new to me in version 0.91. I suspect it could be related to whatever is causing the behavior described in this old report of mine, which (I'm happy) is in progress: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/299362. The reason I think it might be related is because (a) objects are displaced, and (b) it only happens in Layer 1 of my default doc, which uses the landscape orientation. When I make a new layer (which is the trick to avoiding that bug) it doesn't happen. However, there is some new/different unexpected behavior in the new layer. It seems to me like these might be separate problems, but I'll have to leave it to you to decide. I just need to know (1) whether these things need to be reported. And (2) if the first problem is related to the old bug report, should I report this new behavior in a new comment? (It seems like if the bug is causing new behavior in 0.91, assuming it really is related, then it might be a clue to fixing it.) (just my simple sense of logic)
First problem: To reproduce in the attached file: -- Draw a simple path under the bold red line, in Layer 1, with either the Pen/Bezier or Pencil/Freehand tool. -- Click Undo The path moves above the red line. You have to click Undo a 2nd time to actually get rid of the new path.
2nd problem: To reproduce in the attached file: -- Draw a simple path anywhere, in Layer 2, with either the Pen/Bezier or Pencil/Freehand tool. -- Click Undo The path doesn't move. But it also doesn't go away. You have to click Undo a 2nd time, to get rid of it.
I haven't tested every single tool, but so far, it's on the Pen and Pencil tools that show this behavior. I think you might need something else from me....maybe my preferences.xml file??? Or do you need my default doc? Anyway, let me know whatever it is, and I'll send it :-)
Thank you very much, brynn

Neither of the described issue reproduces in Inkscape 0.91 r13725 with default (new) preferences. Please provide your current Inkscape preferences file for further tests.
Based on the symptoms, I suspect that the observed symptoms might be related to custom default styles for the Pen and Pencil tool (or the 'last used style' if set for these two tools), and 'Fill and Stroke' dialog opened at least once in the current session (e.g. restored from last session); they both are likely related to these reports you filed earlier:
Bug #1372151 “0.91 pre2 redo button doesn't work” https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1372151
Bug #1445407 “after Difference, Undo shows "Set marker color" (0.91)” https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1445407
The symptoms you described today do both reproduce with Inkscape 0.91 as described if using either preferences file you had provided in those to bug reports (and if 'Fill and Stroke' was opened at least once in the current session).

Thanks suv, Current prefs file attached :-)

I'm not sure what "custom default styles for Pen and Pencil tools" is (or means). Do you mean options on the control bar for each tool? For the Pen tool, I have it set for Straight Line mode. For Pencil, I have Smoothing = 50.
Yes! I tested again just now, and this does only happen if the F/S dialog is open.
Oh! By "custom default style" you mean not-"last used style"? Yes, I have custom styles set for all my tools. For both Pen and Pencil, it's black, 1 px stroke with no fill, which is the same as default, except without the "last used" behavior.
Yes, after I use Undo, the Edit menu > Undo reports "Set marker color". I didn't mention it, because I knew it was already reported. (Actually I see that ALL the time -- much more than just using Difference, as in the report. Sometimes I wonder if I should report all the different circumstances?)
However, this behavior where the path moves when Undo is clicked once, and where it takes the 2nd click of Undo to actually undo the drawing of the path -- those two things are new, at least for me. And that's why I wondered if they should be reported.
Except for the "Set marker color" issue happening coincidentally, I don't understand how these 2 new things are related to the 2 bugs you mentioned.
It's not that I have some other idea about what's causing them. I just don't see the connection. And I'm not doubting your diagnosis either. But if you could say in a simple, not too technical way, how these 2 issues relate to those bugs, maybe I can recognize if I see something else, and not have to bother you.
If there's no simple way to explain, don't worry about it. I'll just leave the responsibility to you, if any new comments or reports need to be made :-)
Thanks again, brynn
