Hi, all,
I try run Inkscape at my Leopard 10.5.2, I just get a message showing that (the attached file)
" while inkscape is open, its windows can be displayed or hidden by displaying or hiding the X11 application.
The first time this version of Inkscape is run it may take several minutes before the main window is displayed while font caches are built."
This message told me that I need to wait several minutes. But I have waited for several hours, and not thing happen. Can any one tell me what should I do?
I have update the X11 to Xquartz 2.2.1.
Best regards,
Jinzhi.

Yes, it seems that a new version of Xquartz has changed fontconfg and caused this problem in Inkscape. I'm currently overseas without a good internet connection so I haven't yet worked on an official fix.
In the meantime, you should be able to fix the problem by opening Terminal.app and typing "mkdir ~/.fontconfig". Then rerun Inkscape.app and it should start okay.
Cheers, Michael
I have personal die cutting machines, that I use for scrapbooking, In another software, when I make a mat for a title, I can have it three ways, one is rounded, then next is squared, and the third is mitered. When I make a mat in Inkscape, I do my title, welding them if I want, then I duplicate that word, and use outset to make a mat, thus creating a rounded mat. Is there a way in inkscape to do squared or mitered cornered mats?
Thanks Bibi

Can you post a photo of an example?

The easiest way is probably:
1. switch to normal mode 2. make a duplicate of your title 3. set a thick stroke on the duplicate, and select squared (beveled) or mitered corners (you may need to dial the miter limit up or down) 4. do "stroke to path" 5. return to outline mode
Unfortunately strokes on text and stroke-to-path are a little glitchy, but in most cases this should do what you want. Let us know if you have any trouble.
