Using Wacom Graphire 4 in GIMP (Mac OS X/X11)
Hi!
I am testing a Wacom Graphire 4 tablet in my Mac (PPC) and appearently I can't use its pressure sensitivity in GIMP. Has anyone managed to use a graphics tablet in GIMP, under Mac OS X? Is X11 for Mac compatible with this feature? I also tryied in Inkscape, but it only behaves like a mouse, pointing and clicking, with no pressure signs... Anyone can help, please?
Thanks, Victor Domingos http://lojamac.com/blog

I didn't know that Mac's X11 did not support pressure in Xinput.
Indeed the X11 version shipped with OS X does _not_ support Xinput and hence graphic tablet can't have pressure or tilt sensitivity. There are only two ways out of this: - get a recent Xorg to compile on OS X. There is an Xorg port in MacPorts but it is marked a broken. I guess many projects will benefit from having a newer and possibly faster X server - get Inkscape to compile with GTK natively on OS X and improve the GTK port to have support for tablets. The first part has already been done by some people and would benefit from more interest. See http:// wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/ CompilingMacOsX#Compiling_Inkscape_as_a_native_application_. 28no_X11.29 . The second part is really GTK related and I don't know how GTK could get tablet events information it normally gets from X11 when X11 isn't there. Has anyone experience on windows with this? Are tablets supported on windows? Both solutions would be great and would make many Inkscape (and Gimp!) users happy. Any step in those directions would help a lot.
Eventually, there may be a third way: get apple to upgrade X11 themselves. Send feedback to Apple in whichever way you can. Your email alone won't change much but if everyone does... who knows? Is there someone here testing a beta version of Leopard? What about X11 there?

Any hint where to send emails/complains to Apple?
Cheers Alberto

Select Mac OS X as a product I would guess (since X11 is no there).
