Is there a way to change the default line width?

I've looked for this feature, but haven't really known *where* to look, so I thought it might be worthwhile to shoot a question to this list -- just in case it isn't there.
The default line width is 1px, or .8 of a point. There are some drawings where I'd like to set the default line width to 2 points, or 1 point. As it stands, I've been changing the width manually after I draw it, which for complex drawings can be a pain.
Is there a way to change the default line width overall and per session? If not, I'll add it to the bug tracker because that would be a really useful feature.

Double click pen/pencil tool and switch them to "last used style". After that the new lines you create will have the same style as the last one.

Inkscape needs one of those splash-windows with hints so you learn all this stuff. I would never think to double-click a button.

Double click is just a shortcut :) The same thing is accessible via File > Inkscape Preferences.
