Hi guys, I'm taking a class on UX design this semester and, throughout the semester, my task is to design a user interface (based on various techniques learned throughout the semester, including rigorous user testing). I've been pondering designing the UI for SVG animation in Inkscape. Would this be useful?
If so, could you please clue me in to what the plans for animation in Inkscape are? The roadmap vaguely mentions "Animation support" and http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/SpecSVGAnimation seems to merely be a list of suggestions. What functionality might be part of an initial implementation?

Hey you,
thats sounds interesting, I am ready for that. Thanks. ;)
Hi Mirek,
First off, is this something you were looking to do for Summer of Code, for school, or something you just want to do on your own time?
Given that we don't have any existing animation functionality and there are no immediate plans to implement it, I don't know that this would be a great use of your time. However, if you feel strongly compelled to because it is of great interest, it could possibly help guide someone who is looking to add animation down the road by eliminating some questions.
Cheers, Josh

Flow-based real-time traffic analytics software. Cisco certified tool. Monitor traffic, SLAs, QoS, Medianet, WAAS etc. with NetFlow Analyzer Customize your own dashboards, set traffic alerts and generate reports. Network behavioral analysis & security monitoring. All-in-one tool.

I would add:
Because the implementation of animation will likely be a slow and gradual process; designs for the user interface should grow or have a sense about which parts of the design should be done in a compartmental way.
This gives the designer more work, but should make the first jobs of animation implementation easier.

It's for school. (BTW, this would be strictly design, no code, so wouldn't fit under GSoC.)

OK.
