Textbox with coloured background?
Hi everybody,
I searched lists etc., but didnt find an answer to a quite trivial question:
I need a text box with a coloured background. It should surround the text in a adjustable distance; the background should expand when more text is typed into the text box.
Sorry to bore you with such a stupid thing - cant belive this "feature" really is for the wishlist?
Greetings,
Wolf
Create and select box (or any object) and text, Text -> Flow into Frame (Alt+W).

Thanks. Yes, I tried this before - but the background box does not expand (or shrink) automatically.
Nor does it keep the text centered as it was before.

The box can't expand or shrink automatically, really - which direction should it shrink? And that's not generally going to be what's desired, anyway. Resize the box and the text will reflow. And set the text alignment to "centre" and it is centred.

O.k., thanks for making that clear to me.
Anyways: I think, quite often the task occurs that items have to be labelled in a drawing, and text boxes do need a uniform background and frame around them in a constant distance.
What about a feature which will keep the frame of a box in a constant (adjustable) distance from the text, irrespectively if text is added or removed?
Are there other people to find that useful?
Greetings,
Wolf

Very useful and already an old "classic" in DTP programs (If I remember it's also in Illustrator).
In Xara it's also a feature of repelling objects.

In CSS parlance maybe you would call his padding or a margin....

o.k., thanks for your feedback; I filed it, tagged "wishlist", at
