Proposal to create "Inkscape translators" team in Launchpad
Hi, I'd like to propose the creation of a Launchpad team called "Inkscape Translators" in the same way the "Inkscape Administrators" and "Inkscape Developers" exist in order to centralize the efforts of all us translators.

What do you expect from this team? We don't use LP Translations and I'm quite sure it's not possible to give write access to the po/ folder only. And we already have a specific mailing list. Could you please explain?

No, seriously, Canonical still imports and allows editing Inkscape translations. I've spoken to their i18n team recently again and they insist on doing so, while recognizing the need to work with upstream.
The solution as they see it is strong Q&A in local i18n Ubuntu teams. And that basically means having every language's Inkscape translator in a respective Ubuntu i18n team, because, as you might suspect, not every Ubuntu i18n team has people who know Inkscape and graphics design that well.
Apparently this nonsense will never stop.

Nevertheless potential advantage could be in more languages supported than Inkscape have at the moment, since LP and Rosetta in particular are more 'social' places. Of course it lead to need of strong quality assurance, which is lack often there.

If you want Inkscape to be 5% available in 20 more languages, feel free to work on that :)
Inkscape has been available for translation in Rosetta for ages. How much contribution has actually happened? How many non-finished translations were finished and to what extent? At which point will that "potential" unfold?

If you want Inkscape to be 5% available in 20 more languages, feel free to work on that :)
I do not want it. I use only english and that's more than enough for me. But that's only mine preferences. I know that some people around the world like to work in native environment.
Inkscape has been available for translation in Rosetta for ages. How
much contribution has actually happened? How many non-finished translations were finished and to what extent? At which point will that "potential" unfold?
At the point of social promotion. I often see 'vote for translations' from many projects on the LP i18n maillist. And I need to say that everytime that have huge impact for contributions. Also, since translations for Inkscape are now submitted by LP bug tracker, why not to use LP Rosetta?
Some projects even search translators directly - from LP or whatever else methods.

That mean - if developer want to close much of non-finished translations to the moment of release for example, he drop a message to maillist. The exact form of that message could differ.

Let me restate to make things clear(er). I don't see what particular existing issues creating translators group is going to solve. Could you please name them?

Hi, I'm sorry to have brought up such a thorny issue. My only goal was to create a visible group, other than through the mailing list (which sometimes is not much of a user-friendly channel for occasional users to pose their questions), where the translators of the different languages could share their issues. And also create a place where we could "belong", where our work can have a tiny bit of visibility (mainly because it can serve as support for a CV/résumé in such difficult times as these).
Maybe it would not be very functional for the developers, but it will certainly add a "social" component to translator interaction.
