Hi Vardenis, I think I understand what you mean. You're thinking it would be better not to mix up video and text tutorials, in the gallery? I think getting rid of that page would be fine, once I've had a chance to contact all the tutorial authors (just like Neon22 is doing for extensions) and we have a lot of tutorials loaded to the site. But again, that's not something I can start on right away.
But for the short term, we can make the Video Tutorials page a little more current, and look better too. I'm not sure where all those bullets came from. I think someone else must have edited after I did (years ago)
But I'm still trying to understand what Martin meant.

And really try to help with your website and outdated tutorials, I'm now trying with Video Tutorials section in website, Thanks for you help. ;-) I'm thinking in "Video Tutorials" section tutorials from Nick Saporito (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCEQXp_fcqwPcqrzNtWJ1w9w/playlists), he have playlist Inkscape explained(for very beginners), Inkscape Beginner Tutorials, Inkscape Intermediate/Advanced Tutorials, Inkscape Typeface Tutorials, Inkscape Logo tutorials, he explains from very beginning to advanced topics in Inkscape, too Chris Hildenbrand have awesome tutorials( https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVMhFCCmrMisICIoyTIXsKw/playlists ) for game art, Inkscape basics of game art creation, Inkscape seamless patterns, too in channel is tutorials about how to animate. Too Sids Art - Inkscape And Drawing have interesting tutorials (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLLI43BLYCGCqrnxqHwDRTni9K3V-Y bkhs).
I'm thinking this videos make Video Tutorials section more modern and more interest.
What do you thinks about that?
Sorry for my bad English language, Thanks. :-)

I have an interest in tutorials of all kinds, and keep a list of what I consider the best or most helpful tutorials (meaning that they don't contain any errors or outdated steps) on my website: https://forum.inkscapecommunity.com /index.php It's probably about 6 months out of date, right now. But I'll make it current pretty soon.
I have a plan to bring them all over to the website, eventually, but can't start on it until I finish with other projects first. But I'd be glad to help you, if you wanted or needed it.
One thing which could probably be done right away, is to put a link on that page, to this page https://inkscape.org/en/gallery/=tutorial/. They aren't all video tutorials, but those that are, are certainly more current.
Maybe I'll add a note on that page, with the link, and also asking for volunteers. (I wonder if Victor would be interested, too? I know he's looking to help out.)
All best, brynn

I believe the job of Video Tutorial curator is available if you'd like to have a go.
The first thing to do is to think about what's out there, maybe make a list of all the really great stuff, then think about how you'd put it together on a website.

Hi Vardenis, I think I understand what you mean. You're thinking it would be better not to mix up video and text tutorials, in the gallery? Well, they already are mixed up in the gallery (https://inkscape.org/en/gallery/=tutorial/). However, you can choose to look at only text or only videos. See on the right column, where it says "textual" and "video", black buttons with white text? Although I'm not sure if that works, if the author did not put such a tag when they uploaded?? Yeah, if you click on video, it's blank, as if there were no videos. Is it possible to manually add those tags, to the video tutorials?

I haven't ever done that before, or seen it. So I'm not sure what it will look like. I'll try an example, using one of the heathenex vids, because I know they have a free license. Don't forget to upload each of the videos into the website, if you add the youtube video as the URL link it will embed the video and you can add text and other important information like the license (if there is one).
This way videos can be collected onto these tutorial pages using the gallery widgets.

I asked Vardenis if he wanted to make the edits himself, and I explained about the wysiwyg editor. He said he didn't want to, but he would be glad to make a list of some more current videos to put on that page. And I said sure, I don't mind updating the page.
All of that might not have made it to the list, because he was always replying just to me. I tried to reply to the list, so maybe it's in a message, but is further below the current reply.
I don't care if anyone wants to take on the project. Here's the feature description: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape-web/+bug/1603669. It's just that I've already contacted all the tutorial authors, when I made the page, and it would be easy for me to contact them again. But if someone else wants to do it, that's fine with me.

Don't forget to upload each of the videos into the website, if you add the youtube video as the URL link it will embed the video and you can add text and other important information like the license (if there is one).
This way videos can be collected onto these tutorial pages using the gallery widgets.

The first thing to do is to think about what's out there, maybe make a list of all the really great stuff, then think about how you'd put it together on a website.
Sound like fun?

Well you guys have totally lost me. Now we are back to the Video Tutorials page? Maybe there were some messages that didn't go the list, and I didn't see them?
As I said before, it would be better for me just to have a list of the videos you want, and I'll try to find a good way to format the page. We can always discuss it, if you don't like how I do it, until eventually we find a format to agree on.
Like for example, in the section of line 6 to line 11. The website editor does not allow indenting like that. I think that's why whoever last edited that page, it's full of bullets.
Possibly we could use a table to organize them? It's been a while since I worked on a page on the website, and many changes have happened since then, with text styling and formatting. So I'll have to experiment, and we can discuss as it goes.
Should we use the embedding link, like I showed in one example earlier? Or just plain links, like it is already?
All best, brynn

Don't forget to upload each of the videos into the website, if you add the youtube video as the URL link it will embed the video and you can add text and other important information like the license (if there is one).
This way videos can be collected onto these tutorial pages using the gallery widgets.

No need to create a page. But if you want to make a list of tutorials, with a link to each one, I'll be glad to add them to that page. That page needs some attention besides current videos, too. I'm not sure how it got to be organized like it is, but I'm sure we could eliminate a lot of bullets.

No, no (I don't have permissions and maybe someone don't agree with me). I'm not editing, I'm only discuss for now about "Video Tutorials" section, and I'm thinking Nick Saporito, Chris Hildenbrand, Sids Art tutorials can be more helpful than now tutorials in Video Tutorial section. I can try (In text editor) create page with format familiar to the current with new video tutorials from above authors and share here. :-)

Hi Vardenis, Yes, Nick Saporito has very quickly compiled a huge amount of Inkscape tutorials! I think that now, they aren't quite as good as when he first started. Goes a little too fast now. And it drives me crazy that he ALWAYS calls the Selection tool, "the arrow tool". Even after I mentioned it, he still keeps saying it. But still, they are a free resource, and I think they are helpful for a LOT of Inkscape users. Chris Hildenbrand's tutorials are mostly text tutorials. I think only a few are videos. Unless recently he's started using videos? But yes, very good! I haven't heard of Sids Art. I'll follow your link and check it out. Yes, those would certainly help to make the Video Tutorials page more current. I didn't understand you though. Did you mean to say that you are going to edit that page? If you want to help with the Inkscape project, and edit that page, we can give you permissions to edit the website.

Hello, Brynn, Thanks for you website, it is amazing!

I have an interest in tutorials of all kinds, and keep a list of what I consider the best or most helpful tutorials (meaning that they don't contain any errors or outdated steps) on my website: https://forum.inkscapecommunity.com https://forum.inkscapecommunity.com/ /index.php It's probably about 6 months out of date, right now.

In YouTube and Vimeo there are many who create Inkscape video tutorials.
I believe the job of Video Tutorial curator is available if you'd like to have a go.
The first thing to do is to think about what's out there, maybe make a list of all the really great stuff, then think about how you'd put it together on a website.
Sound like fun?

Hi Guys,
I've been sick (and still am) so I'm trying to follow this thread as best I can, if you still have questions, you can ask me like this: "A question for Martin: Blah blah blah" and I'll hopefully see it.
- I wouldn't mind if some day, someone would decommission that page
entirely... It's not a beautiful page, and the gallery can do it just as well, only with search, tags, ordering by quality, pagination, commenting ...
I agree and would like to see the page replaced.
I think that would be an improvement, and also make it easier for new videos to be added by their creators.
The idea of video embedding is really to collect resources and empower non-admins to add content. Tutorial videos or svg images, the only extra for videos is that they are links to a video site with a thumbnail instead of the actual video file.
But maybe that would be going too far?
Nope, well within reason.
Best Regards, Martin Owens
I agree and would like to see the page replaced.
Replaced? Reformatted? Or just deleted?
While I agreed with getting rid of it eventually, earlier in the week, I've had a 2nd thought about it. Once we've been able to contact tutorial authors, and invited them to upload their tutorials, I think we have to consider the fact that some will not be interested. In the case of videos which are just really good and worthwhile, but the author doesn't want to upload, maybe it would be providing a service to users, to have those at least linked on that page.
I realize it's pretty ugly, at the moment. But of course we can do better, at least for the short term, until the tutorials gallery grows. I've been a bit under the weather myself, the last couple of days, so I need to touch base with Vardenis.
Another thought I had. Video tutorial authors might be more inclined to upload videos, if they could upload small batches in one go, instead of one at a time. Would that be really hard to provide?
All best, brynn

We really DO NOT want people uploading videos to the inkscape website.
We only want the video links. Video links can be added by anyone and I wouldn't mind having a generic inkscape user to collect them all under if we need to. Linking to videos is allowed by anyone.
The system is only a matter of cataloguing so we don't have to do so much manual work. Esp for translations and updates.

Hi Vardenis, I hope I can find a way to display the info, without all the bullets (black squares and circles and dots). In my opinion, that's what makes the page look so bad now. I think I might try a table. Or maybe a small table for each author? I can't promise that I'll be able to use your format. But we can do trial and error, until we find something that works for everyone. As soon as I get your list, I can start working on it. After I've formatted, let's say 25% of the list, I'll show everyone how it looks, or maybe I'll try a couple of different formats, and we can discuss from there. I suppose there's no way to make a custom bullet, is there? I can see the list format working, with more subtle bullets. Maybe gray instead of black, or something else -- smaller bullets maybe? Sylvain, if you're watching this thread, maybe you know about that? I guess I've done it in the past, by list style. But I'm not sure how hard it would be to do on this website.
Thanks, brynn

Brynn & others,
I'm working on an extra special form for the website that's tailored for adding videos. Hopefully this will both make is easier and explain what's to happen, rather than require people to remember what to do.
I'll hopefully have something to show by the end of next week. poke me if I disappear though since I'm coming back from England and I might get distracted by real life.

https://css-tricks.com/almanac/properties/l/list-style/ You can only have: * a disc (default), * a circle (default for nested list), * a square (default for list nested several times), * nothing, * a custom image.
I also think the page is ugly. The first thing to do is to use more headings for the tree, at least for authors, like here: https://inkscape.org/fr/apprendre/tutoriels-video/ I tried to remove the circles (leaving only the discs) but it looks like the editor doesn’t allow `list-style`. -- Sylvain

I might make a couple of example bullets. Nothing fancy, because here, I think we need something subtle. If I make a custom bullets, I guess I would have to give you and/or Maren the file, so you can upload it. After that, how would I call on that custom bullet, when I’m want to use it?
Yes, I like how you reorganized that page. That looks much better already.
Maybe I can do the same thing. I mean, start experimenting on the current page, instead of waiting for Vardenis’ list.

I think that page may need to exist into the future. Not all video authors will want to go to the trouble to upload their....links. And having this page will allow us to have a list of some of the best ones, which are not in the gallery.
Although eventually, maybe it could be combined with the Text Tutorials page. They won't be intermingled, just 2 separate section. Maybe - just a thought.
As I've said before, I'm sure we can make it nicer to look at.
Another thought - links to non-YouTube videos will work as well? vimeo, e.g.

- Anyone can add any video to the gallery. You can do so, too. We could have a 'featured' tag or something similar, too, if we want to designate 'the best'. But we can also just let the community decide what they like best, by voting on the items. Who knows with certainty what is helpful for others...

Another thought - links to non-YouTube videos will work as well? vimeo, e.g.

Hi Vardenis,
- I find it would be extremely valuable to have an up-to-date, reviewed list of useful videos, which could then be added to the gallery. It's a lot of work to view them all, and then to categorize them, but I'm sure this would benefit many people. Just now I have answered a user question with a link to youtube - it would be so much better to answer it with a link to our gallery :)
I would like it a lot to see them tagged with difficulty levels (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced - just like Brynn does on her website for the text tutorials).
As for tutorial series, it's maybe enough to add the first one in the row/difficulty level, and then tell people that there are tons of others, and roughly what topics they cover (at least, if the author of the series doesn't answer if they are okay with a curated set of their videos being embedded in the Inkscape website's gallery).
Kind Regards, Maren

(long-ish)
Vardenis, I think it would be ok to make some simple updates to that page. Because I don't want to start on the uploading process (search for tutorials, contact authors, review tutorial, tag, upload) until we get the forum issue finally settled. And at this point, who knows when that's going to happen. But since anyone can do it, Vardenis, maybe you would want to help on this project, instead of updating the Video Tutorials page? Maybe you can pick out what you think are the best video tutorials, and "upload the links" yourself? (One of us can show you how, if you need help.) You wouldn't have to take on the whole thing yourself. Maybe just a few or several that you think are "must have". Whatever you have time for. I guess it would be polite to contact the authors? Also, don't forget vimeo. There are a couple of really good tutorial authors there. Use my page to help find them, if you like. Also, please tag them well. I would probably tag the main tools that are used in the video. If the video produces a particular image, as its main goal (as opposed to teaching a technique) put that in a tag too, such as "shiny button", "extruded text", "wireframe globe", etc. If it's a technique, tag that (for example, "pattern along path" or "interpolate", etc.). And of course tag "video". That's assuming it's allowed to have 2 words in a single tag?
Everyone,
-- I would suggest that whoever uploads the video should have watched it all the way through. Sometimes a video gets uploaded (to YT or vimeo) which is broken - either the video or the sound craps out halfway through, for example. Or sometimes they're just poor quality video or sound. -- I would suggest there not be any very confusing sections, sections that go too fast, or that gives incorrect information. -- I would suggest Not to upload videos with only music in the background. There are SO many videos (and text tutorials) around by now, that we can easily afford to be picky, and still have more than we can use. Narration definitely preferred. Note that jabiertxo would be an exception :-D (-- I would like to add a note to all of Nick Soporito's that what he routinely calls "The Arrow Tool" is really the Selection Tool. But I'm not sure if that would be too much work. I've even mentioned it to him, but he's not willing to change.)
Should we discuss and post guidelines for tutorials that we want to....I can't think of the right word? Not exactly "bless", but we're essentially recommending or approving them. And it seems like if anyone can load anyone else's tutorials, there should be some kind of quality control. When I was thinking of doing it, all that stuff is already in my mind. But if all kinds of people will do it, I wonder if there should be some guidelines? Either that, or new ones will need to be moderated (by a moderator watching or reading the whole thing, judging its quality, and possibly tagging). And it seems like the person who uploads it should bear that burden. Moderators will already have a lot of work to do, and watching new videos will take more time.
I wonder if it might be better for 1 person to be responsible for judging the skill level (beginner, intermediate, advanced)? Because people are going to be all over the place with that, and I fear that those ratings will quickly become useless (if they aren't consistent).
I'm not sure if there will be some kind of limit on the number of videos, or tutorials in general?
So if I'm understanding how it works better, the only difference between clicking on a text link, and clicking on a video in the gallery, is that it can possibly have a thumbnail image in the gallery? (Oh! When contacting the author, I would ask if they want to provide a thumbnail.) So that's why there's no copyright issue. We aren't actually uploading their videos. Instead, we're....well, it would be sort of hotlinking, except for YT does allow that, since they even provide the embedding code themselves. Well, something still feels weird about this kind of routine. I assume it takes more resources - bandwidth, space, cpu or other? to do it using the gallery, than just a simple text link. I guess I'm just old fashioned. I'd rather see nicely organized text, lists or table, where potentially hundreds of tutorials can be linked on one page. The visitor can quickly scan the page for the category they need. Rather than a gallery entry, where you can only see....what is it, 20 at once. And you have to search for your catagory, where if you don't already know the terminology of what you're looking for, you won't be very successful finding it. And the website speed.....well, I hope we get more space sooner than later.
If and when we get more server space, could we host our own video tutorials? Or is it never in the plans? I think it would make the website even better. (And of course, not depending on other websites for content is a plus.)
Thanks, brynn

Hi Brynn,
Most of what you say is right.
Well, something still feels weird about this kind of routine.
It's perfectly normal for the internet. It's just like putting links into a spreadsheet instead of a text document. We have more flexibility with the spreadsheet as it's DATA, rather than text, which must be reformatted manually every time.
I assume it takes more resources - bandwidth, space, cpu or other?
To host our own? Yeah, it's 300 times more pressure than a text file and 20 times more pressure than a large image.
We'd need a server FARM, rather than a single machine. So since we can embed and link to youtube we do that. Wven my own videos will be on youtube and I'll be generally deleting any large videos that might be uploaded by other people since as an administrator I draw the line as hosting video directly.
Of course there may be future exceptions, but I feel this is a fairly good baseline rule.
to do it using the gallery, than just a simple text link. I guess I'm just old fashioned. I'd rather see nicely organized text, lists or table, where potentially hundreds of tutorials can be linked on one page.
That's the elegance of DATA, we can turn the links into a list and design a page for the content that's disconnected from the actual content. So management of which videos becomes a parallel job that ANYONE can do, and page design becomes something that web designers do in code.
The DATA can also be indexed, so text searches and drill down categorisation become possible. Overall it's much better to have this sort of thing in a SYSTEM, than to have it in a manually curated text file.
Or is it never in the plans? I think it would make the website even better.
In this case, there's no clear benefit to hosting our own. Only costs and burdens to us. Youtube (and others) so a fine job allowing embedding and handle many hairy issues for us.
Our job is to integrate well enough to make it worthwhile for people to list their tutorials on the website. I'm hoping the new link function will make that easier.
Best Regards, Martin Owens
Hi Brynn and Vardenis, and everyone else,
just answering Brynn's questions now.
Am 13.01.2017 um 02:44 schrieb brynn:

- Yes, that is possible.
Everyone,

- This is possible for videos where 'we' post the link, but not for videos uploaded by 'just any' user. We can maybe add a way to mark videos as 'featured' or 'recommendable' (e.g. by uploading it under a specified user name, or into a specific gallery, or by a mechanism that would still need to be added or repurposed), but letting users decide, by upvoting, is much easier on our staff resources.
Should we discuss and post guidelines for tutorials that we want to....I can't think of the right word? Not exactly "bless", but we're essentially recommending or approving them. And it seems like if anyone can load anyone else's tutorials, there should be some kind of quality control.
- All we may be checking for in 'anybody''s uploads is that they do not contain spam, or are intentionally misleading. For the rest, if your neighbour makes a little video, where he presents his favourite Inkscape tool to the world, he's welcome to link it from the Inkscape website.
When I was thinking of doing it, all that stuff is already in my mind. But if all kinds of people will do it, I wonder if there should be some guidelines?
- The guidelines are in the community CoC. A video is just a resource like any other one.
Either that, or new ones will need to be moderated (by a moderator watching or reading the whole thing, judging its quality, and possibly tagging). And it seems like the person who uploads it should bear that burden. Moderators will already have a lot of work to do, and watching new videos will take more time.
- Yes, people who upload a video link, or artwork, or tutorial, or anything are responsible for their uploads. Moderator(s) currently have a very light job, there's little to do, fortunately. It takes me less than 15 minutes a day to check all uploads, and unpublish or delete, deactivate user accounts if suitable, or add more or less encouraging comments and questions.
I wonder if it might be better for 1 person to be responsible for judging the skill level (beginner, intermediate, advanced)? Because people are going to be all over the place with that, and I fear that those ratings will quickly become useless (if they aren't consistent).
- If someone disputes the difficulty level of a video, they can always ask for it to be changed in a comment. It's not a strict science, so even when a single person does it, it may feel very different for another person. For the videos that we 'feature', if we decide to do so, the input of everyone who is interested in watching the videos will be taken into account for setting the level. I doubt it's a topic we'll want to have long discussions about, though.
I'm not sure if there will be some kind of limit on the number of
videos, or tutorials in general?
- Links are tiny in our db, so this won't be a problem.
So if I'm understanding how it works better, the only difference
between clicking on a text link, and clicking on a video in the gallery, is that it can possibly have a thumbnail image in the gallery? (Oh! When contacting the author, I would ask if they want to provide a thumbnail.)
- That, and that the video can be watched while you stay on the Inkscape website.
So that's why there's no copyright issue. We aren't actually

- It's called embedding :)
Well, something still feels weird about this kind of routine. I
assume it takes more resources - bandwidth, space, cpu or other? to do it using the gallery, than just a simple text link.
- Possibly. On the upside, people can sort to their liking, use the upvotes of others as recommendations, and use a search, they can comment, interact. It's so much more interactive and community-building than a list. Also more visually attractive...
I guess I'm just old fashioned. I'd rather see nicely organized text, lists or table, where potentially hundreds of tutorials can be linked on one page.
- Maybe :) Those kinds of pages are rare nowadays. People aren't used to see them a lot anymore.
- I hope so, too. And more RAM :)
If and when we get more server space, could we host our own video
tutorials? Or is it never in the plans? I think it would make the website even better. (And of course, not depending on other websites for content is a plus.)
- That's difficult to do, because video files are so large. Also, we'd get more people to find them if they're hosted on a website like youtube. And most uploaders use those public services anyway. Uploading twice is a lot to ask, it takes a long time to upload a video, depending upon your internet connection.
Hope this helps a bit, Regards, Maren
Thanks, brynn

Hi Maren and all, So you're saying that you don't see a need for tutorials to be curated at all? So that searching the Inkscape website for a tutorial offers the visitor no more assurance that they'll find a decent tutorial, than if they search the internet? It seems to me like the Inkscape website should bear some responsibility for providing quality content (even if it's not its own content), especially regarding tutorials.
Thanks, brynn

- I hope so, too. And more RAM :)
If and when we get more server space, could we host our own video
tutorials? Or is it never in the plans? I think it would make the website even better. (And of course, not depending on other websites for content is a plus.)
- That's difficult to do, because video files are so large. Also, we'd get more people to find them if they're hosted on a website like youtube. And most uploaders use those public services anyway. Uploading twice is a lot to ask, it takes a long time to upload a video, depending upon your internet connection.
Hope this helps a bit, Regards, Maren
Thanks, brynn

Hello, Matin Owens said: "Because really that page needs to not exist in the form it is." and he doing website improvements. So, maybe just wait and don't update if really this page change form from current form to new form. Lessons list can be created easily, if something agrees with my suggestion, but if the page really change whether it's worth it to build?

I think that page may need to exist into the future. Not all video authors will want to go to the trouble to upload their....links. And having this page will allow us to have a list of some of the best ones, which are not in the gallery.
- Anyone can add any video to the gallery. You can do so, too. We could
have a 'featured' tag or something similar, too, if we want to designate 'the best'. But we can also just let the community decide what they like best, by voting on the items. Who knows with certainty what is helpful for others...
Although eventually, maybe it could be combined with the Text Tutorials page. They won't be intermingled, just 2 separate section. Maybe - just a thought.
- I would go so far as to replace the text tutorials page, too... it's
just causing translation work, with no additional benefit in comparison to a gallery page (for me).
As I've said before, I'm sure we can make it nicer to look at.
Another thought - links to non-YouTube videos will work as well? vimeo, e.g.
- All links will work. For embedding, vimeo and youtube do work. Other
providers can be added as needed.

All best, brynn

Btw. anyone can add a link to an Inkscape tutorial video they like, and mark as 'Tutorial'. It needn't be the author (but it would be good to have them on board, of course). If someone needs help with how to do this, I'm available for explanations / step-by-steps.
I'm really hoping my improvements which are yet to go in, will help get links added correctly.
Because really that page needs to not exist in the form it is.
But who knows, I have hope the next website release will be met with positive review.

Martin,
Haha!
it will bear as much responsibility for tagging tutorials
as 'good' or 'vetted' as there are volunteers to do the vetting.
So when we have a tag for "good" or "vetted" should there be guidelines for using it? Because what one sees as good will not necessarily be what all consider good. I couldn't tell you how many not very good tutorials I've seen called "good".
In Maren's reply, she said:
- The guidelines are in the community CoC. A video is just a resource
like any other one.
I disagree. The CoC is about personal conduct, not quality of content.
Back to Martin said:

Well, I'm entirely willing to do that, although as I mentioned, I can't start on it yet. But if we had guidelines, then anyone else could start. And plus, even when I have time, all kinds of other people are still going to be able to upload links.
But I'd like to get a collection of tutorials built up before we drive
it to perfection.
Why?
If it's as simple as making a "good" or "vetted" tag, and writing guidelines, why not get started? It shouldn't take any huge amount of effort to discuss and agree on a few simple guidelines. Of course, I don't know what it takes to create a tag, but it seems like it should be fairy easy (by someone who already knows how and has the proper access).
Thanks, brynn

Why not indeed. I trust you wholly with creating a simple set of guidelines, I think you made a good start in the previous email.
You may wish to discuss, but I'm happy enough not to.
The videos tutorials will be in two great categories: unvetted (all video tutorials added by anyone) and vetted (videos checked against your checklist). Getting a list of vetted videos is not critical, so we can be patient for your guidance and help sorting the content when the time is right.
In the mean time, anyone is free to add tutorial links to the website.

re-titled from "Re: [Inkscape-docs] Update "Video Tutorials" section in website"
Sounds good to me. Well, thank you for your trust and confidence. This is the perfect size of project that can probably be finished while we're waiting for OSUOSL. I don't expect it will be very much larger than the suggestions I made earlier.
(fyi, we already do have 55 tutorials! Although some are the Example files. But still that's not a small amount.)
Just for video tutorials? Why not extend to all? Most things could apply to both. (such as making sure it's not outdated, read/watch all the way through, doesn't give incorrect info, possibly contacting author, e.g.) Also, "vet" or "curate"?
I think it would be good to discuss the details on the list, because input from others can only make it better, imo. If something needs a specific response from you, we'll specifically ask, and otherwise, I'm sure you'll be reviewing the list as usual :-)
Where should these guidelines be posted?
For example, they could probably be brief enough to fit in the black space between the menu and the tutorials (on this page https://inkscape.org/en/gallery/=tutorial/ starts with "A collection of video...."). Although that space generally seems to introduce the page, rather than give instructions.
Hhmm, well I guess the Extensions page does give instructions in the black area.... (ref: https://inkscape.org/en/gallery/=extension/)
Or it could be a link in the upload form, like the CoC link.....oh, I thought I saw there was a link there previously. Aaahh, I must be thinking of Comments. Well, it could be a link like that, in the upload form. Possibly so that it only shows when Tutorials category is selected?
(Actually, I wonder why there's not a reference or link to the CoC on the upload form? Is just too much maybe?)
Any other ideas about where to put this? Anyone else with ideas about guidelines, please chime in :-)
I'm about to log off for awhile, but I'll put any suggestions that are posted together with the ones I mentioned before, sometime next week, and make a first draft.
All best, brynn ps - Idea: Just like the extensions can identify which version it works with (if the uploader tags it), can the tutorials be tagged for which version was in use by the author, when the tutorial was made?

Hhm, well, as I said, I'm not much of a video watcher, and I don't understand a lot about it.
Could someone show me an example of a video that's in the gallery (but not uploaded, somehow) or linked in the gallery. Just so that I can understand how it's supposed to work?
Thanks :-)

We really DO NOT want people uploading videos to the inkscape website.
We only want the video links. Video links can be added by anyone and I wouldn't mind having a generic inkscape user to collect them all under if we need to. Linking to videos is allowed by anyone.
The system is only a matter of cataloguing so we don't have to do so much manual work. Esp for translations and updates.

P.S. Maren, I should check to make sure that our pages don't say "by Username" when the item is "I have permission" instead of "I own this work"

Is there anything you're asking me to do here? I'm not sure I know which items you may be referring to, though...
