Hello translators,
I was wondering if macOS menu strings could be translated as those aren't in the .po files (or at least I didn't find them).
Thank you! Firas

Hi,
They should be translatable via the desktop file...
Can you provide an example of such strings?
Thanks in adbvance for your answer.
Best regards, Yuri
Hi Yuri,
Here are a couple of screenshots.
In this first case most strings are not translated: [image: macos-strings-1.png]
In this second case some strings need to be updated: [image: macos-strings-2.png]
What do you mean by desktop file? I know there are some strings that are outside of the .po files, but don't really remember where they are... Do we have a list of all files that should be translated/maintained?
Thank you! Firas

Hi Firas,
I've just done a quick search in the Inkscape codebase for the missing strings, and was not able to find them.
Could it be that they're added by either GTK or macOS itself?
Kind Regards Maren

And hi again,
I've asked our macOS devs, and this is René's reply:
Screenshot 'Inkscape' dropdown: "Translations for these have to be contributed upstream to https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk-mac-integration"
Screenshot 'macos-strings-1': "AFAIK the non-translated (English) parts come from macOS itself (default entries), that might be a lack of integration on our part."
Regards Maren

Hi Maren,
Thanks for the very useful info! Looking at the .po file in the repo ( https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk-mac-integration) as mentioned not all macOS menu strings are there, but for sure updating them is still necessary. We'll check them out and do what's possible.
Have a nice day, Firas
