Do you use online platform for translating
Hi
I'd like to ask you if you use any online platform like launchpad or Transifex while translating Inkscape.
Regards, Muhammed Azmi Al-Hashemi.

No, we don't.

Indeed, when I started to contribute in the Inkscape translation into Arabic I started a project on Transifex. Lately, I've received requests to add more languages to the project and now there are Arabic, Hindi, Armenian and Bengali. As you don't use an online platform I suggest you to own the project on Transifex so it could be the central site for translators just like Shotwell localization project on Transifex.

On a second thought, it would be unfair if one person blocked the whole community. So if I'm the only person who objects the move to online translation tools, I'll gladly resign from maintaining my translation.
Alexandre Prokoudine http://libregraphicsworld.org
Exactly, that is why I suggest you to own it and not just to join it. Because I'm not an expert in Transifex so you can manage it better than me.
By the way, I translate on Launchpad from time to time, and I believe there is kinda user levels. but I'm not sure about Transifex.

Hi,
It would be good to hear something from developers, imho. Can somebody tell what the developers, as the most valuable part of the project, want and how the best translation workflow looks from the developer's side?
Thanks in advance for your answers.
Best regards, Yuri

Hi, I totally agree with Alexandre. I have very negative experience with similar collaborative translation tools, but I understand that they are useful for others. In my opinion, unless there is a person in charge of quality control, the translations of large projects, like Inkscape is, quickly get out of hand and turn into a incoherent mashup of strings.
I have recently requested and started a translation on Transifex for a WordPress plugin that was already being managed there and I think it can be used side by side with the current translation process, as long as the translators take care of exporting their po files and send them to the corresponding list. I see no difference with using poedit, gtranslator, kbabel, transifex or pootle as long as the po files are submitted as always.
Just my 2 cents,
Cheers, -- Lucas Vieites lucas@...162... http://blog.codexion.com http://www.linkedin.com/in/lucasvieites

You can suggest any tool you like, but it would be nice if you explained why you suggest it :) What's the pros and cons?
Alexandre Prokoudine http://libregraphicsworld.org
The strings are credited per author. Native Git support. Glossaries. Robust and easy to use. Actively developed and maintained, usually my bugs and requests are handled very quickly.
Feel free to try it out yourself and let me know what you think about it.
