Hi there, I'm Lucas Vieites https://inkscape.org/~lucasvieites/, long-time translator of the Inkscape UI and tutorials to Spanish. I have recently started promoting Inkscape in my (real-life) social networks, which has prompted many questions about stuff that's already available on the website, but, unfortunately, not yet translated to Spanish. I have reached out to the current website translators to see whether there is a plan to keep on translating the more static pages of the site, which it seems there isn't, so I'd like to start contributing to this task.

I've been reading https://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/WebSite, and I think I'm more than capable to follow the instructions. I have a background in open-source software translation (+20 years) and website development (HTML, Javascript, CSS, etc.)

I will now formally use the "Request Membership" button on https://inkscape.org/*translator/.

Hi Lucas,

seems the join request didn't work, at least I can't see it in the list (nor in the administration interface).

I've given you the permissions, but I can't click on accepting you into the team at the moment. This might be a bug with the website.

If you tried, and do not see something like 'membership request pending', please open a bug report at https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape-web/-/issues

Hi there, when I click on *Request membership*, I'm redirected to https://inkscape.org/*translator/join/ and get the following *Permission denied* screen:

[image: inkscape_web_permission_denied.png] I assumed there was a pending previous step that would give me permission to do this action.

Is there anything I might be missing?

Hi Lucas,

yes, the error message asks you to make two posts to the forum that can be confirmed, to make sure you're not a spammer. This is a comparatively recent spam protection measure which was put into place because we had lots of spammers request team access / access freely accessible teams, to get more exposure to their user profiles.

I'm not sure how to emulate that from the administration interface, so I think the easiest way would be to say hi somewhere on the forums and have your posts approved.

You can use the Community Café section for this, for example, at https://inkscape.org/forums/cafe/ or reply to a couple questions in the Spanish help forum at https://inkscape.org/forums/espanol/

Hi there, indeed, I was able to access the admin interface, but right now I seem to be locked out; my password is not accepted and the password reset feature does not seem to send emails. I'm using lucas.vieites@gmail.com as my email address. Any idea what could be happening?

Hi Lucas,

sounds like it could be an issue with Google's login feature or maybe Google is filtering out the emails as spam.

It is possible to whitelist email addresses from withing GoogleMail, I think. Can you try that?

I'm including Martin in CC, maybe he can tell whether website email sending is working and whether google login is functional at the moment.

I believe the problem is that this email address is not registered with the website. So It won't send out a password reset to an email address that's not registered.

I have confirmed the password reset emails are working and have sent emails too both gmail and non-gmail accounts just now.

Hi there, Martin's comment turned on my idea lightbulb 💡. We actually had this same conversation a couple of months ago, and we found that I log into the *website* at inkscape.org with Google authentication, that's why the regular password reset feature doesn't work for me. My confusion comes from the fact that I use my regular email address to log into the chat site and for the mailing lists ;)

I've made a permanent note in my password management app so I know for the future.

My apologies for the hassle (again).

I've already started reviewing and fixing/updating the translation of the main menu of the site, and I will be looking to create the missing pages as a next step. Now that we have a deadline for the UI translation for 1.2.x, it will take a bit longer than I initially expected, but I guess there's no hurry.

It is possible to whitelist email addresses from withing GoogleMail, I think. Can you try that?
