On my computer, it took 25 seconds to convert your drawing to 600 DPI
bitmap (907*789) with Inkscape 0.48 on Linux. Doing the same with GIMP
2.8 took 42 seconds.
I have 2 GB RAM. The bottleneck is not the amount of RAM, it is the
speed of the CPU.
