The final SVG version needs some tweaking of course (proper SVG fonts and code cleanup)
Regarding SMIL: if you really want to do something it should be very subtile and not annoying ...

Feel free to modify the image as you like, or drop a word here and I'll modify it accordingly.
It may be worth converting the text to paths as Chrome seems to have trouble getting it in the right place.
