#- Dear Bulia, #- #- I think you (as developer) try to think instead of the user. #- What can be a little dangerous ;)
And what Bulia says ("Doing anything unexpected is bad UI") is a basic rule for UI design. He's right.
It is a little more complex job. As I mentioned snappig grid on/off now needs two hands. What is a horror itself. And I must use, because snap to grid does not work itself. This is a consequence of "developer thinking".
So, the question is not: "Doing anything unexpected is bad UI" is good or bad, but what is the "unexpected". It was unexpected to me.
And this is a tool. If you hit your finger with hammer, you would say: "it was anything unexpected, bad hammer", but just you dont know the hammer. If you know: it it possible to snappig without see any grids, then you won't hit your finger with inkscape. Simple.
In this case, the developer think: "it is good to prohibit the user". But it is not.
In other point of view: I can kill my finger with hammer. It is my freedom. Do not prohibit using a tool as usual. Because that tool will be unusable (but will meets UI desing rules, you are right)
I don't think that inkscape developing goes wrong way. I don't speak in ordinariness. This is one little thing, nothing more. And will be fixed, I think. ;)
Bye, Aewyn
