[Inkscape-user] Can this be split into multiple objects

Hi I am trying to recreate my logo. I have attached a copy. Want I would like to do is change the sun and sun rays to a golden colour. Is it possible for this image to be "broken" apart into mutliple objects so I can achieve this. Also, could anyone give me any advice on how I might make the logo a bit more interesting. maybe 3d it a bit, give it some depth. Many thanks for any advice offered
