Hey all,
I can't seem to use the fill tool in Inkscape (v0.48 on OS X). Trying to fill a rectangle object with a 0.010 mm line width (stroke color: blue) with no fill while sectioning off a chunk with a two-node straight line cutting through the upper half. I tried filling the area, but it only filled it and left a weird uneven margin on the end ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/25968780@...2823.../5552182877/). Clicking the white margin doesn't do anything. I also tried changing the line width to something thicker, making it the same color as the straight line, but same seems to have no effect. Checked for gaps, found none. I also tried changing the threshold, but that just made it not fill anything at all. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks,
what are your fill settings (stroke/fill etc)
I use OS X SL and have not seen this problem - could you post the whole svg file.
hopefully some one with more experience will come along with the answer but I'll try to help if I can!

You might not be doing anything wrong, as the fill tool relies on a rasterization of the image which is filled and subsequently traced again (if I'm not mistaken), it will in general be imprecise. Fortunately, from your description it sounds like it shouldn't be too difficult to do what you want with vectors. Just create the shape you want filled, possibly using path intersection or something like that (depends on what exactly you want to do), and then apply a fill through the fill & stroke dialog. (You may want to consult one of the inkscape manuals/books or tutorials if you've never used boolean path operations.)
I undid the Picasso fill and now it seems its saying the area isn't bounded. :| I've attached the file; Basically I'd like to full the top and bottom parts of the rounded rectangle. Those sections don't have any visible gaps, but Inkscape seems to disagree.

the fill is not 100% as, as said by someone before (sorry forgot who), it is a raster fill. I believe it's the rounded corvers that cause the problem it may work better if you fill a rectangle with colour then place the ronded one over it and use path>intersection.
But I would fill the rounded rectangle with your chosen colour by selecting the shape and choosing the stroke you want, then place a rectangle over it in your 2nd colour (or white) with no stroke using the same method as attached here

A simple question (I think, I hope!).
Is it possible to do/make a text to graphic transformation in Inkscape? & if so... what command does one use? (I used to use Adobe Illustrator, & the command was basically, something like 'text to bitmap' (?)).
Thanks a bunch.
Henry
P.s., I did look in the manual...
The "Convert to Path" menu option (control + shift + C) will convert the selected object from a "special type" (such as rectangle, ellipse, or in your case, text) into a path. This might be what you are looking for.
After you convert text to a path, you can edit the individual nodes of each letter.
Hope this helps!

I'm not sure what you mean but you can change text to an path by the menu Path->Object to Path (Shift+Ctrl+C)
