Hello Inkscape List,
Thanks for a wonderful program. I have a fairly simple question which I can't figure out from internet searching. I am making a diagram and I would like to have a box in the upper left hand corner of the drawing show an enlarge portion of my drawing.
1) Is there an easy way to do this? By easy I mean if there an option for a box that limits graphic to inside the box... kind of .svg within an .svg?
2) If not and I have to do it manually, then I will relate my other problem right now. I was going to do this manually by drawing a rectangle then simply copy/paste the necessary items into my box to manually create the enlarged area. But for some reason whenever, I try to draw rectangle I get nothing but a box of dashed lines that disappears as soon as I don't click on it. Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong?
Anyways thanks alot in advance. I am running Ubuntu 8.10

Second question is probably an easy fix. You need to set some kind of fill for you line.
The first question has several posibilities. The easiest m ight be to make a duplicate or clone of your drawing, put a rectangle around the area you want, use the intersection opereration from the boolean list, and then use the transformation tool to increase the size.
I hope it helps.

Don't know about the first option.
My guess for the second option is that you are drawing a rectangle without a border or fill. The best wa is to draw your rectangle, which you will not see but will be there. do: - edit - select all and - Ctrl + Shift + F and - Pick a color for the border or fill

Hi, Sam.
1) Assuming the enlarged portion wouldn't be interactive or anything, you can simpy first create a clone of your diagram (Alt+D), enlarge it, draw another rectangle on top of the clone, select both the rectangle and clone and then select *object --> clip *or *object --> mask *from the menu.

Bulia I'm a little mystified why is clip supierior to intersect. Does this keep the clone interactively linked to the orginal drawing?

exactly, clip is non-destructive
