Hello, regarding C++ification, I've reached a point with Desktop where the class would be suited for inclusion in a Gtkmm environment, were it not for its dependency on SPCanvas etc We have now three possibilities: 1. forget about Desktop, incrementally improve the code in UI::View::Edit, first by separating Edit into Edit/EditWidget. After that, steal from Desktop what's needed. 2. Separate EditWidget from Edit. Discard rest. Rename Desktop to Edit. 3. Before worrying about 1/2, implement Gtkmm canvas under Desktop, enabling it via --new-canvas for testing. After that, goto 2. I have questions for those in the know: Is it technically possible to have everything as is, plus only a Gtkmm canvas? If so, would you prefer having a Gtkmm canvas tested first, instead of the Gtkmm UI? I have made a branch CXXIFICATION_VIEW_AND_WIDGET for work until now. As the next steps might not fit this description, should I create a second one GTKMM_CANVAS and merge them back later separately? (This appears cleaner to me.) ralf

Ich habe mir das Programm auf meinem Rechner gespielt, weil das was ich gelesen (im internet) habe sich gut anhörte für mich. Da ich aber kein Fachmann bin sende ich euch meine Probleme. Sollten die probleme nicht an dem programm liegen bitte ich um entschuldigung für die Störung. Druchen über das Netzwerk ist bei mir nicht möglich. Inkscape versursacht einen Ausnahmefeher 10H in Modul msvcrt.Dll bei 0197:7820ea8f Frage: Ist es möglich das was ich mit dem Programm gemalt habe in *.DXF *.Hpg oder *.plt zu speichern. Ich habe eine Gravier- Fräsmaschiene die diese Daten am besten Lesen kann viele andere kann ich zwar importieren aber muß sie in dem dazugehöriegen Programm noch einmal Zeichnen. Ich schätze mal das würde vielen Leuten die mit so einer Maschiene arbeiten helfen. Verbesserungsvorschlag: Da dieses Programm ein freies Programm ist, wäre es sehr sinnvoll wenn man die daten auch mit StarOffice öffnen kann oder dahin Eportieren. Da Staroffice auch ein freies Programm ist. So könnte man wieder etwas abstand von MS gewinnen. Mit freundlichen Grüßen Thomas

Hello all, according this bug that bulia mentionen I wrote to the gtk mailing list and got so far 1 answer through the mailing list. Pls. read that they state Win98 as a "obsolte os where apperantly no developer is interested anymore." I dont know wether this is the voice of the whole gtk devel group or yust this one person. So what is our plan ? src/dom/* status

Can anyone give some feedback on the status of the code inside src/dom ? How much works is still to be done to have xpath support working? I noticed that xpathimpl.cpp is actually just a stub, so I suppose that there's some work left to do... is anyone working on this? -- lode

I'm working on getting the roadmap up to date for us. Assuming that we shoot for the usual 2-3 month development cycle for 0.44, what things are people hoping to focus on working on? Three features that have come up repeatedly in this thread are interapplication cut/paste, layer dialog, and ps/eps/pdf import support. Is anyone interested in working on one of those features for 0.44? If we could get progress made on one or two of those features for the next release I think it would make a good achievement. Bryce

You know, I'm not really all that keen on the text in the new about image. It doesn't really mesh with the tone of the image itself, and ... eh, it's just kind of off-putting. Let me see if I can come up with some alternate texts before we get stuck with this one... -mental

Libre Graphics Meeting

Hi all, A few weeks back, I sent a call to arms for a conference I'm organising with David Odin in Lyon next March. Since then, a lot's happened - we've confirmed the dates and location - CPE Lyon, the 17/18/19 March 2006. And we've started assembling a line-up. The main purpose of the conference is to get the developers of different projects in the same place, and talking. The other main purpose of the conference is to have the developers of those projects meet their users (and vice versa), and in general to chill out, maybe get some work done, and have a good time. Jon Phillips will be giving a talk on Inkscape, OpenClipart and creative commons, someone from Blender will be coming to present Project Orange (I hope), and there will also be presentations of Scribus from mrdocs and MrB, and the GIMP, although I don't know by whom yet. The current plan is to have 2 very light days of presentations on Friday and Saturday, and to consecrate Sunday completely to impromptu BOFs, hackfests, demos, brainstorming sessions, whatever happens. Should be fun, and I'd really like to see a good showing for Inkscape. Can people interested in attending please add their names to teh GIMP wiki at http://wiki.gimp.org/gimp/LibreGraphicsMeeting (we'll have a better site soon). I'm releasing another version of the clip art browser. Lots of bug fixes, some performance improvements, code cleanups, and a new installation procedure (yes, yet another). Installation is now 3 steps, and hopefully easier than ever: 1) Satisfy the dependencies of Python 2.4 and PyGTK 2.6. 2) Download and run the following script, which installs the python setuptools: http://peak.telecommunity.com/dist/ez_setup.py 3) Run "easy_install clipartbrowser" As you can see, I've switched the installation system from Makefiles to the python setuptools. The setuptools are still under development (they're apparently going to be included in python 2.5), and I'm still very much learning how to use them, so the packaging isn't as polished as it needs to be, but this makes installation a breeze. Eventually, it should allow arbitrary python dependencies to be intelligently installed as well using the same process. I'm still working on getting this integrated back into the Inkscape effects menu, that's next on the list. As always, feedback greatly appreciated. Greg
