pdf import again: poppler native vs. poppler cairo
by the Adib
Hello All,
as the problem is still there I would propose following intermediate solution:
currently in the codebasis there is also an pdf import via
poppler-cairo. This one is disabled.
I would like to enable this as an additional pdf import possibility.
We have to decide later when it comes to the release which one to
integrate into the release.
so we can test in parallel the two options.
we have a big tester basis (compared to separate launchpad branch)
we get the possibility to switch to an tested poppler-internals
independent solution (while using poppler)
I there is no big NONO I will go forward and enable this within the next days.
attached the patch that is needed for this (tested on windows, should
work on Linux)
regards,
Adib.

Re: [Inkscape-devel] OCAL Dialog Redesign
by Andrew
Hi Guys,
So I have been doing a lot of work on the Import from OCAL dialog and I
have finally finished! I was wondering whether I could get some testing,
especially on some different platforms with different internet connections.
All you need to do is get my branch using:
bzr branch lp:~and471/inkscape/ocal-dialog-improvements
And then compile as usual. You will find the dialog in File > Import
Clip Art
So yeah, basically I want a lot of testing, to iron out any errors that
I have missed and also feedback on the stuff I have done. Then once that
is all done, I shall propose for merging into trunk.
A list of changes is below, as well as a link to screenshots of the new
dialog.
Thanks!

== Changes ==
* UI Redesign (which includes)
- Altered the padding and packing of all widgets
- Added search entry with clear and search icons
- Added OCAL Logo overlay

- New preview widget that shows extra metadata
- New status widget to notify on errors/success etc.
- Dialog is now persistent (retains state)
- Better messages for the user
- Changed title/menuitem to 'Import Clip Art'
* Backend stuff (which includes)

bandwidth and increase speed)
- Implement cancelling of operations
- Put downloaded resources into one directory, from which we can
use later
- Big cleanup in terms of code

Depixelizing Pixel Art
by Alexandre Prokoudine
Hi,
FYI: http://www.scribd.com/doc/56137278/Depixelizing-Pixel-Art
"We describe a novel algorithm for extracting a resolution-independent
vector representation from pixel art images, which enables magnifying
the results by an arbitrary amount without image degradation. Our
algorithm resolves pixel-scale features in theinput and converts them
into regions with smoothly varying shad-ing that are crisply separated
by piecewise-smooth contour curves"

Win32 devlibs update req
by Josh Andler
Can someone please update the win32 devlibs to the most recent
versions of released libs? Specifically the gtk & glib portions are
what would be helpful if possible. If this isn't very doable due to
that flickering bug that was experienced, has anyone filed any bugs
upstream about it?
Cheers,
Josh

Unfortunately inkscape 0.47 can no longer be build with an up-to-date
libpng. So I have the problem of neither beeing able to use 0.48.1
(because of the crash) nor 0.47 (because of the building troubles).
Can we as users somehow be of any more help to identify the bug? Thank
you very much.

Textbox with coloured background?
by Drechsel Wolf
Hi everybody,
I searched lists etc., but didnt find an answer to a quite trivial
question:
I need a text box with a coloured background. It should surround the
text in a adjustable distance; the background should expand when more
text is typed into the text box.
Sorry to bore you with such a stupid thing - cant belive this
"feature" really is for the wishlist?
Greetings,
Wolf

Win32 build broken?
by Nicolas Dufour
Hi,
Apparently there's something broken in the current win32 build with the new devlibs r22.
Without the devlibs installed (or in a different location), Inkscape returns an error message stating that libgcc_s_slj-1.dll can't be found, and then exists.
With the devlibs installed, Inkscape launches as expected.
Reproduced with the modevia's file (10216) and a local build (10215). No problem with the trunk revision 10204.
Regards.

Re: [Inkscape-devel] Inkscape Papercuts
by Aleksandar Kovac
Big thanks everyone for checking out and adding to 'Them Cuts'.
Yes, alex valavanis (quite a few alexes here, :).. That is exactly how i feel the 'papercuts' are. Also, thats why i did not want to 'contaminate' the bug db before you girls and guys see it.
Papercuts not really being bugs in a programming sense and all...
is it ok then to add these to launchpad using 'papercut' tag?
