compilation error with boost on OS X

hi all, I'm trying to include all new functionalities in the new development versions of Inkscape on OS X but I've been hitting unmet dependencies and problems for a while. here is the last one. Summer of Code Proposal

Dear Inkscape Developers: My name is Justin Barca, and I will be applying for the Summer of Code position with Inkscape. Recently I drafted a proposal for Inkscape, and when I decided to seek out developers to help me improve my proposal, I found the website encouraging me to do so on the mailing list, so here I am. I put my preliminary proposal for improving the Python extensions/effects API on the Inkscape wiki at this address: http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/ImprovingPythonExtensionAPI. If any of you would be willing to be an advisor for my proposal please contact me. Particularly, it would be useful to talk with anyone who has worked on the extensions/plugins/Python aspect of Inkscape. In the lead-up to the final announcements, I will be preparing to work on my proposal for Inkscape because despite the odds, I believe that I have what it takes to win a SOC position. Even if I don't, I still want to integrate my creations into Inkscape. Thus I've been studying the current Python extensions API, improving my Python programming skills, and learning SVN (of which I'm pleased to hear you're using). Cropping a bitmap along path

Hi, currently I'm testing Inkscape for the german computer magazine c't. I'm trying to crop an imported bitmap along the path described by a vector object (e.g a star) to gain a bitmap element shaped like the object (which I want to use as a "die"). I've tried the boolean operators for shapes and paths, but nothing happened. Is this operation possible in Inkscape? Thank you! The hook up

I'm working through creating a button in the Document Properties dialog to fit the canvas around the current selection or the full drawing. You can read a diff of my changes at: http://www.ekips.org/comp/inkscape/inx/current.diff I'm at the point now where I would like to hook the function up to the button. The question is how to best do this. Do I create a Verb and hook it up through there? If so, where can I find an example of how to use a verb with a button on a dialog? I noticed that very few functions in Inkscape actually get to be Verbs. Should there be more verbs? From where should a verb get access to the active desktop/document? Should I use sigc::bind() to pass the active desktop to the function directly in the dialog code? If so from where should I get a pointer to the current desktop? While I was looking around document-properties.cpp for a pointer to the active desktop, I found "static void on_activate_desktop (Inkscape::Application *, SPDesktop* dt, void*);". Some of the params aren't named. And while the desktop is named dt, it is never used. SP_ACTIVE_DESKTOP is used instead. Is SP_ACTIVE_DESKTOP evil? Needless to say, I'm a little confused and I don't know what questions to ask to get the answers. I just want to hook my little button up the right way. Aaron Spike

NEW: calligraphic behavior changes

* In all previous versions, pen width depended on zoom in such a way that the strokes appeared the same visible width at any zoom, but were in fact narrower at zoom-in and wider at zoom-out. This behavior makes sense if you want to keep the same "feel" of the pen regardless of zoom; for example, if you zoomed in to make a small fix to your drawing, it's natural that your pen becomes physically smaller but feels the same to you. So, this behavior is kept as the default, but now we also added an alternative mode where your pen width is constant in absolute units regardless of zoom. To switch to this mode, use the checkbox on the tool's Preferences page (you can open it by double-clicking the tool button). * The Width field in the tool's controls bar now changes from 1 to 100, which corresponds to the range from 0.01 to 1.0 in the previous version. If the "width in absolute units" mode is turned on, the value in this fields gives the width of the stroke in px units. In the default mode, the value of 100 gives 100px wide strokes only at 100% zoom, and strokes are correspondingly narrower or wider at other zoom levels. -- bulia byak Inkscape. Question about rendering

Hi there, I'm having a little bit of trouble understanding the code. Maybe someone can give me a fast explanation of this. >From my point of view Inkscape should have to type of renderers: - a fast and optimized one (maybe not necessarly an exact one) for realtime rendering. kind of a WYSIWYG renderer for when modifying on screen - a slow but precise renderer for getting a print-ready, camera-ready or even video/film-ready, hi-res,... These two renderers should have a common API (primitive drawing commands proper to rasterized images (points, lines and filled triangles)) in order to be able to extend this idea to other renderers (maybe someone comes up with a better antialiasing algorithm or a better renderer, or even a different buffer type result (hexagonal pixel buffers,...). I know that the fast renderer might be a bit harder since it must be able to only draw changes, but there must be a way of dealing with this. I'm asking this, because I would like to propose the "Creation of a shader (modifications at rendering level) language for vector images" as a Summer of Code project. Me as a student am interested in this idea. Seeing the deadlines approaching fast I would appreciate quick feedback and maybe mentor volunteers. Thanks to all -- ricard http://www.ricardmarxer.com
