[PATCH] Allow inkscape to be cross-compiled from Fedora to Windows using MinGW

Hi, I'm doing the Fedora MinGW project[1], where we are building up a cross-compiler and comprehensive set of libraries so we can build Windows software from Fedora. Mostly inkscape "just works". Install the dependent libraries such as gtkmm etc. from our yum repo[2], then: PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/i686-pc-mingw32/sys-root/mingw/lib/pkgconfig \ ./configure --host=i686-pc-mingw32 \ --enable-lcms=no \ --without-gnome-vfs make With this command and the patches below I built 'inkscape.exe', and did some limited testing, and it appears to run under Wine >= 1.1.6. (Note that at no point is MS Windows required). The patches and specfile we use are in our development repository[3], and also attached to this email. (a) mingw32-inkscape-20081027-no-gc-version-check-when-crosscompiling.patch You cannot run programs when cross-compiling (not even if you have Wine). This first patch disables a test for the version of libgc which relied on running a test program. (b) mingw32-inkscape-20081027-extra-win32-objects.patch I'm not quite sure why, but a load of Win32 source files are apparently missing from the Makefile.am's. It should be safe to add these for all platforms, as long as the sources files themselves are surrounded by #ifdef WIN32 ... #endif. (c) mingw32-inkscape-20081027-no-is-os-vista.patch The code uses a function called 'is_os_vista' that doesn't seem to exist. Maybe this was added to a new version of some dependency? (d) mingw32-inkscape-20081027-pango-enable-engine.patch Some files don't compile unless you define PANGO_ENABLE_ENGINE. I didn't look into this very deeply, but certainly defining this symbol at the top of the affected files fixes this. (e) mingw32-inkscape-20081027-no-setenv.patch This is a hack we use to remove a reference to 'setenv' because that API doesn't exist on Windows. I hope you find this useful, and maybe you can use it to automate builds and tests on the Windows version. Rich. Hello Krzysztof, Using a pre-compiled rev. 20019 on XP, I run into an assertion when I select a few objects and hit ctrl-shift-a to align them: ERROR:src/preferences.cpp:470:Inkscape::XML::Node* Inkscape::Preferences::_getNode(const Glib::ustring&, bool): assertion failed: <pref_key.at(0) == '/') Is this related to your refactoring? hotkeys indication

Hi, Recently I discovered that quite a number of users are not aware of mnemonic hotkeys for tools. That is, looking at tools tooltips they only see Fn hotkeys (SVN version doesn't show even them) and they have no idea that mnemonic keys are available. And they don't read http://inkscape.org/doc/keys.html especially since it's not available offline. Thus the question: in case we will still show hotkeys in tooltips in stable 0.47, should we show both? E.g. "Create 3D boxes (Shift+F4, x) or "Create 3D boxes (Shift+F4 or x) Alexandre

loading local extensions

Howdy, I've just committed a patch from Thomas Holder that fixes loading of extensions from local folder like ~/.inkscape/extensions (LP197475). Works for me on Ubuntu Linux, please test on Win and Mac. Also, please update AUTHORS whenever you commit someone else's patch. ;-) Alexandre

Make bug 227949 enter in Milestone 0.47 ?

Hello, I'm not familiar with how "milestones" work and what they are, nor with what "string freeze" and similar are, so I'll ask my question and for your indulgence if it's not a "good" question. In May 2008, I filed a bug which I think is a major annoyance when using 0.46: the bug is https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/227949 and is: ENTER does not work anymore in transform dialog (but does in 0.45.1). I was really hoping that the bug would make it in 0.47, but looking at https://launchpad.net/inkscape/+milestone/0.47 , I don't see it in the list. So, the question is, is that list "closed"? If not, is there a way to make the bug enter in it? Can I "nominate for release" or something? Will that be enough? (I do understand that asking this is "pushing" the bug, but I also think it's a really important feature that the users have lost, in usability). Thanks for any answer!

Hi all, Maybe there are people out here that have time to kill and want to help on Inkscape but don't want to or can't code C++. I'd like to remind you of this years 'Test Suite' GSoC project, which was imo very succesfull. We need artists that can provide SVG files and PNG renders of them; so no coding required! The testsuite can be found here: https://inkscape.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/inkscape/gsoc-testsuite For some documentation see: http://www.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/TestingInkscape ("rendering tests") What this testsuite does is provide numerous svg files that are rendered by Inkscape to PNGs. The PNGs are then compared to a reference PNG and Inkscape will score a pass or fail for that particular "testcase" svg file. It is a very nifty procedure/tool to see what Inkscape can and cannot do. Moreover, it can be used to track regressions. So where can you help? Add testcase files! If you've created some crazy drawing that uses complicated SVG structures, or LPEs, or perhaps you have a simple drawing with 'corner cases' (lines with zero length, rectangles with zero length, closed paths with start and end markers, etc...).... those are the files we need ! Note that we need a lot of files where Inkscape does something non-trivial but does it correctly! This way we can ensure that will work in the next version. If you can also provide a reference PNG of the correct rendering, that would be awesome :) Check the testcases directory, perhaps your testcase is already there. You can post the testcases on launchpad, mail it to me, or find another way of getting it to us. Ask the maillist if you'd like SVN write access, if you've shown good work in two patches, it will be granted to you. I'm happy to answer questions about the testsuite, but it's perhaps better to ask Jasper for details (cc'ed in this mail). Cheers, Johan

Can someone with appropriate privileges change the Inkscape's old icon in Launchpad to the current one which uses Tango style?
