Tweak Tool Colour Jitter - feedback on variance

I've been playing with the Tweak Tool in an effort to create something sparkly, like a Disco Ball (but not really). I've given the array of objects some colour then used the Tweak tool to jitter the Luminance. The problem I have is that the jitter effect doesn't come close to covering the full spectrum of luminance values. So the result has a distinct lack of contrast and looks more matte than sparkly. With maximum pressure the range of jitter always pulls towards the middle of the spectrum and instead of getting a range of values between 0 and 255, I get a range between 90 and 150. I find this is true for saturation also. Here's an example (http://yfrog.com/7gjitterrangep): http://www.nabble.com/file/p24178629/jitterrange.png In this picture I started with very light Cyan on the left and very dark cyan on the right (for illustrative purposes). I then used the jitter tool with luminance and saturation modes. The result is pretty much the same for both groups with a relative small range of variance. I may not be thinking correctly about how this feature works. I imagined that greater pressure would create more variance in the spectrum. Has the preference file moved again?

The Alt key has stopped working again just recently but the mapalt code seems intact. The last time this happened it was because the default location of the preference file had changed; has that happened again or do I need to start digging through the code? ICC on color picker

JonCruz, I've been looking at the dropper-context.cpp code. It deals with sRGB colors only. I think that we should be able to pick an ICC color using the color picker. But there are some issues here: 1) the color picker acquires the rendered sRGB image of the document (a NRPixBlock) and colects the color of a single pixel (or an average). These pixels can be the result of compositing various layers of semi-transparent objects. We will need to implement icc-color compositing on our own if we wish to pick an equivalent color in the transformed color space. 2) Colors can be altered by filters, which are calculated in sRGB. So, it wouldnt be possible to pick an equivalent ICC color even when we are trying to pick a color from a filtered object that has an icc color in its fill or stroke. 3) how to deal with compositing of mixed color spaces? I.e. how to mix sRGB with icc transformed colors? Or even... how to mix colors in two (or more) color profiles? This seems to be hard to solve... I'd like to know what's your (JonCruz and Inkscape devel team) opinion on that subject. Juca

Hi there! I'm a member of a national organization here in Colombia, which is promoting a candidate for next presidential elections. This org has got Groups in several Departaments, and each Group has got several commitees. I'm suggesting them to use a mailing list to enhance communications among commitees, Groups and the whole org. We'd like mailing lists like yours, with a single addres for every list (like your @lists.sourceforge.com) and one list for each commitee (like your inskcape-devel, inkscape-user, inskcape-translator...). I know your list is powered by Mailman, but I'm far from skilled at such. I need something free (we're lacking resources), easy and web based (I have no computer of mine, I work on Cyber-coffees). Could you please help? I really appreciate your opinions.

EAN-13 barcode generation success :-)

Hi all, Further to the recent bugfix on the generation of EAN-13 barcodes, used for book jackets and many other kinds of product packaging, I wanted to carry out some real-world tests. I printed a real ISBN for a forthcoming book in EAN-13 format on to a sheet of plain 80g/m2 copy paper using Inkscape and an ordinary HP Laserjet 3050 desktop laser printer. I then took the print to my local library, who scanned it for me using their hand-held barcode scanner on the borrowing desk. The library computer recognised the EAN-13 on the first swipe, and decoded it back to a ten-digit ISBN. I'd like to thank all the Inkscape developers for this killer plugin. Cheers! Daniel
