Mask calculation error.

Hi, I just checked into trunk a fix for Cairo export of masked objects (bug 597974). In tracing the problem I came across another mask related problem. Inkscape is calculating the value of the mask wrong for screen display. The value of the mask is suppose to be calculated using "the luminance-to-alpha coefficients (as defined in the 'feColorMatrix' filter primitive)" on linear RGB values. At the moment, Inkscape is combining the RGB values with equal weight. This leads to a noticeable difference between Inkscape screen display and the Cairo based exports, as well as display in browsers. I am guessing that sRGB color values are being used in addition, although I don't see a noticeable difference when comparing Inkscape PDF output or corrected screen display output with Batik or Firefox rendering. The code to fix is in nr-arena-item.cpp at line 518 and 536... but as this is speed critical code, I don't know the best way of doing this. Can someone who is familiar with nr-pixops, etc. have a look? re ndering arcs - Bug 653315

Hi, I wonder if anyone could point me to the general location of the code that is responsible for converting a circular arc to its corresponding cubic Bezier approximations for the case where the arc has no sodipodi attributes. I know that the file src\sp-ellipse.cpp does this if sodipodi attributes are present, but it appears that the non-sodipodi case is handled separately. NEW: books section

Hi, Since the SSL bug is fixed, the new Books section on the website is finally available: http://inkscape.org/books/index.php This is only first version of the section, I intend to give it polish and add more books and then keep updated. The HTML code is quite horrible, I'm not proud of it :) Feel free to improve it. The section is localizable the very same way it is done for other pages. Embed Python script engine

Hi all, A week ago, I had post a message about adding a dock item with Python script in Inkscape window. Actually, I had embedded Python script engine to Inkscape successfully in our Inkscape branch (pybind). It works with low latency compared to the extension interface provided by Inkscape now. It is also more powerful than what the extension interface is now. We make it for another project. With this Inkscape branch (pybind), we can add a dock item, or any widget around canvas. We even create a timeline GTK widget with Python and pack it just under the SVG canvas. With this branch, some functions, of Inkscape, that is not CPU-intensive can be implemented with Python script. So, I want to know if it is possible to merge our Inkscape branch (pybind) back to the trunk.

How to include examples in an Extension?

Hi all, I'm currently working on an expansion of the L-System Extension (just for fun, getting to know XML and Python). I implemented an extra parameter "Factor", such that the fractal scales with each level. More info about this at the Inkscape Forums: http://www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=6411 The thing is, I would like to include some examples in the extension. I thought of a drop-down menu (an "enum" type), with entries like "Koch Snowflake" and "Pythagoras Tree". |<param name="Examples" type="enum" _gui-text="Examples:"> <item value="Koch_Snowflake">Koch Snowflake</item> <item value="Pythagoras_Tree">Pythagoras Tree</item> </param>| When the user clicks on such an entry, appropriate values should be assigned to the fields (e.g. Axiom="F", Rules="F=F+F+F", Factor="0.5", etc.). I wondered whether this is possible using XML, or the Relax NG schema language? So to be clear, the GUI-part isn't a problem. Feature idea: shapes in node-edit mode

I was just editing some paths in Inkscape and found myself wanting to add a circle to the path. Admittedly I could achieve this right now, fairly simply, just by creating a circle separately, converting it to a path, and then using "Combine paths" to combine both paths. But that's a bit of a process, and it requires switch modes a number of times, and finding a few commands hidden in the menus (or knowing the keyboard shortcuts). If I could just click on the circle tool, and draw a circle which was automatically combined with the current path I'm editing, that would save a lot of time. Presumably if I could do it for circles, I could do the same for any shape. One of the most useful scenarios for such a feature is editing clipping paths -- I love how you can edit them directly these days. But to combine any shapes with clipping paths, I currently have to release the clip, do the Combine, then set the clip again. That's sometimes a bit annoying. Of course, sometimes you want to intersect/subtract/add, etc, and then you'd need to go through the process. But for a simple combine, this seems fairly intuitive. I'm not proposing to do it myself (sorry!), but does anyone have any comments on how hard/useful this feature idea would be? - Bryan -- PS. Hello I have fixed this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/601719 But now I have second thoughts with regards to putting the fix in 0.48.x branch, since it changes strings. Should I back it out? Regards, Krzysztof
