Waht could make inscabe even better

Hello ! It's just, that I wish to push Inkscape even more .... Regard, I do not make something like "a request" ;-) But: There are many situations, where you just create a plain object in another layer, with the size of the document. Why not re-use the menu: "/edit/paste/document-size" ?? Dont blame, me, if this exists probably on another place ... Best regards, Manfred

Knots vs CtrlPoint

Developers, I've just been scrutinising the code for guidelines, specifically the code that draws the little circle indicating the main co-ordinate of the guideline. What it looks like is back in 2009 the code src/display/sp-ctrlpoint code was a clone of the much older original code in src/display/sp-ctrlquadr which we've had since at least 2005. ctrlquadr draws a square using cairo, used by ui/tools/text-tool only ctrlpoint draws a circle using cairo, used by display/guideline only If we could replace these two instances with Knot objects, we should be able to remove this code completely? (11.8KB, 1150 lines) Are there any land minds you are aware of with this code? (somewhere it's being used without being able to find it?) For comparison, SPCtrlLine and SPCtrlCurve are used by pen-tool, mesh-tool, gradient-tool, text-tool and the measure-tool. So they're very well used in comparison. Best Regards, Martin Owens

Lib2Geom: no matching function for call to 'assert_degree'

Dear Inkscape-devel, I attempted to create a line segment using appendNew with 2 arguments (as suggested in the wiki <http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/WorkingWith2GeomFAQ>): line1.appendNew<Geom::LineSegment>(p1.pointAt(0.), p2.pointAt(0.)); but I got the error message: ../../src/2geom/bezier-curve.h:218:7: error: no matching function for call to 'assert_degree' assert_degree<2>(this); ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ../../src/2geom/path.h:740:23: note: in instantiation of member function 'Geom::BezierCurveN<1>::BezierCurveN' requested here do_append(new CurveType(finalPoint(), a, b)); I am not sure why this would be a problem here. The following line creation would work without this error message: line1.start(p1.pointAt(0.)); line1.appendNew<Geom::LineSegment>(p2.pointAt(0.)); which puzzles me because this leads to a call of assert_degree() as well, although the degree check appears to be the expected 1 instead of 2. In fact, is the line segment creation mentioned in the wiki “valid”? It seems to internally call LineSegment(finalPoint(), a, b) which would be interpreted as a quadratic curve. Thank you. I'm definitely submitting materials to this from my portfolio (including Inkscape materials). What I'm wondering is, do we have a talk planned for Inkscape? Do we have a booth/information to hand out? Do we want any of these things? I'm local to the London area, so I'm able to help set up anything we'd like to do. At the very least I think we can do: Video presentations w/animation Fliers/cards. In addition to creating these items, I'm willing to foot the bill for things like fliers if we don't have project funds available for it. I can also get volunteers from the local Linux Drinks meetup group that I run to come help. node sculpting behavior

Hi Friends, When I first started using Inkscape, which was version 0.44, node sculpting had a different behavior than it has now. I want to ask if it would it be possible to provide the previous behavior, as an option, perhaps using key modifier, or option on the control bar? I'll try to describe, with attached screenshot (sculpt2.png). You can see that dragging the right end node, with Alt key results in the nodes wider apart in the middle, and closer together on the ends (no matter whether I dragged from the right or left side, the result is the same). I'm not sure exactly in which version this changed. But previously, dragging the same right end node would result in nodes wider apart, the closer they are to the node being dragged. Since I can't show an example, imagine it's the same right end node, and it would behave much like a rubberband...or elastic string -- stretched more near where the force is applied, and less on the other end. And so the nodes would be progressively closer together, the further they were away from the node being dragged. One thing I used to like to do, was find an end node of a spirogram. Select all nodes except the other end, then Alt + drag the first end, and it would unravel the spirogram from one end to the other. One of the first images I ever made with Inkscape is also attached, the unravelled spirogram. You just can't do that anymore, with Inkscape, afaik. To be honest, I loved that old behavior and used it a lot. I haven't found many uses for the current behavior. I guess it can make a good bell curve. But I think both behaviors are useful. Would it be possible to provide this optionally? If so, I'd like to make that a feature request. (Unless it already is??) Thank you very much, brynn

The unit of stroke width in Inkscape UI, and 'px' unit

Dear inkscape-devel, Quick question: what is the unit of the stroke width in the Inkscape UI? I am talking about this seemingly unit-less number: When looking at StrokeStyle, it seems to match ‘px’ (SVG user unit). If this is indeed a 2 px width, shouldn’t we add the unit after the number like showing units after W, H, X, Y to make everything clearer in the UI? Brand new crash with text blocks

Hi ! I lack of time to fill a bug because I must leave now (otherwise I will do it in the evening). With the last yesterday trunk Inkscape crashes if I try to change the font size to a bigger one which exceeds the size of the text block. For example in attached file. Extended xml editor

Does anyone know how to implement extended xml tag editor in inkscape? Before several years I wrote system for embroidery pattern generator from svg based on private xml tags, but simple XML editor included in inkscape makes it cumbersome. Some very basic functionality of this stitch generator can be seen at: https://youtu.be/VKle5ApsMnA Editor should have functionality very similar to interface of external scripts but before showing dialog, it should first collect actual data from svg by calling proper extension script method (eg .getparams() ) and prepare file similar to inkscape dialog definition file.inx with <param name= ... > and then dynamically generate dialog to allow user modify sewing parameters, after that call classical extension .effect() method to do changes in svg. I want to implement it but I'm totally lost in inkscape source code. I think that all functionality is already somewhere in inkscape but I need someone to show me the way. Tony
