Inkscape 1.1 release candidate is available !

Hi to all Inkscapers! We just launched the Release Candidate of Inkscape 1.1, with a plan to have roughly three weeks of testing for a release around May 24th. You can get it here: ================================= https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-1.1/?latest=1 ================================= (source tarball, linux appimage, windows installers and macOS dmg are available) We encourage you to use it as you would use Inkscape 1.1 stable, in order to find any problems people may encounter with the release. In particular, if you find any regressions, please do submit a bug report as soon as possible on https://inkscape.org/report : if nothing major is reported, the state of that release candidate should be close to the release. If you want to help with the translations to your language, it's still possible to submit those until close to the release date. Thanks to everyone involved in this release ! -- Marc

Hi everyone, the release notes for 1.1 are progressing here: https://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php?title=Release_notes/1.1 We're not sure if we've succeeded at including all major new features and important changes. I'm currently still working on looking through the commit history and merge requests. Please browse the linked page to check for any major features that you have contributed to. If you find the current description lacking detail, or if the big (or even small) thing that you've been working on is missing entirely, please let us know in https://chat.inkscape.org/channel/documentation You can help tremendously with documenting your changes through good commit messages that include how your change affects the users' experience and that include full links to related bug reports. Version tagging when closing a bug report and linking back to the original MR/Bug report in cherrypicks is also super helpful in knowing which version(s) a change ended up in (i.e. currently the main question is: is it in 1.0.2, too, or is it only in 1.1 + master). I've also seen some very good merge request descriptions (with before - after pictures), and found them to be very helpful - thanks to everyone who helped their reviewers and the users understand what they've been up to with the code in this way! All of this doesn't only make it easier to document changes, it also makes it easier for other developers (including your future self) to understand and search the commit history. Kind Regards Maren
