Symbolic icons

Hi all, the branch to allow put symbolic icons trought inkscape preferences is merged on trunk. We have currently 2 iconset "hicolor" and "Tango" also "hicolor" has a symbolic icon set inside. This symbolic icons are cool but some people dislike use symolic icons so my question is: ¿Anyone is interested in make a new theme recoloring the symbolic icon set? Maybe can be a multi, duo or tri tone recolor. Please recolor it in text editor with a inkscape instance to check the style properties fit you color. Also we can do 2 sets one focus in dark theme and other in clear one. I think we can use a external defs svg file to handle the colors, so it can be forked editing one file. We can also make a system wide same theme from "hicolor system icons"

Trouble installing the development environment

Hey guys! I'm installing the environment to develop inkscape on my desktop. I'm following this guide https://inkscape.org/en/develop/getting-started/ but when I try to install the libraries on my linux system with this command: sudo apt-get build-dep inkscape the terminal responds: You must to provide some URIs to the sources.list What should I do?

First contribution - looking to improve eps -> svg conversion ( or eps import ) - kickstart needed

Hi Everyone, I was looking into eps -> svg conversion and inkscape does an almost perfect job if it wasn't that it trash layers information and group information. I started to dig into the code to figure out if it was something i could look into and try to improve, i found so far this folder that seems to handle the relevant code: https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/tree/master/src/extension/internal/pdf… Is there anyone able to give me a quick input to know if that is the correct code to look at, or if not point me to the right code files? Also does anyone have information of why this feature is currently not supported, if is a matter of use case missing, if just no one built it or if is more about some technical problem that has been already discussed and discarded? To be honest i remember in the past opening some pdf with inkscapes and having multiple ungrouping operations to do before hitting the single objects, but as of now, if i create an eps with illustrators with group or layers and then i import it in inkscape, i get a flat list of objects. So maybe i just remember wrong. I m not by any mean a c++ expert, i have svg and pdf knowledge and some c++ coding, but since i need this feature i would like at least to give it a shot. Andrea

Hi everyone! After a few years using Inkscape I finally decided to get involved with their development. I think that Inkscape it's the best alternative to Adobe Illustrator, but I feel like is needed a big upgrade, fundamentally on their interface that looks like very old and caotic. Unfortunately, I'm a web developer, so I don't know how to code in C++ but I can develop the UI/UX design. Is there someone hightly motivated to develop with me a nice update for 2019? Marién

Inkscape Website: Attack and Spam

Dear developers, I've just now been alerted to some activity on our webserver py1. Email bounces from users started arriving to me (the webmaster) and I quickly tried to gather information about what kind of event we had. One of the bounces contained headers showing the emails were coming from our server. I have thus shut down postfix on py1 as a precaution, the website will be unable to send email for the time being. I've been digging through the logs to find out what kind of issue we have: * A service ticket has been created for OSUOSL to investigate * None of the email addresses appear in our user accounts list, so our database is unlikely to have been compromised. * There's been an sshd attack against the server today from 3:12am to 18:23pm but no actual signs of a break in. * Email appear at 18:53, unknown quantity (more than 40), logs do not report quantity at this time. So it might be something pretending to be py1 to osuosl's smtp server. I'll reply here when I know more, although I probably won't hear back from osuosl until tomorrow. Best regards, Martin Owens

Yesterday was SMIL and today is Mesh Gradients

Hi fellow inkscapers, I was amazed to read that inkscape already has Mesh Gradients (since version 0.92) just like Adobe Illustrator. Illustrator got this exact same feature in the version 8 (released in 1998). 20 years ago. But it seems that Mesh Gradients will be removed from the SVG 2.0 specification. My question is WHY? That made me really sad and wondering: isn't there anything we can do to prevent that from happening? Can we make a petition or talk to Mozilla/Chrome/Opera/Vivaldi browser so they can implement this and this feature, as soon as it gets traction, to be kept in the 2.0 spec of SVG technology? Ideas anyone? Is this too unrealistic or we can do something about it? I remember google chrome almost removed SMIL feature from Google Chrome but then the feature got traction and started being used more and more... so they kept it.

Website Testing (upgrades)

Dear Devlopers and Users, The Inkscape Website is going through some upgrades, from python 2.7 to python 3.5 and from django 1.8 to django 1.11. There's a pile of other upgrades since I rebuilt the dependencies from scratch, but these are the main ones. I've deployed the new version to http://inkscape.sandcats.io:8091/en/ and I encourage people to hit the website and test functionality. Try different things and feel free to report issues to the inkscape-webgitlab issues tracker if you can (to keep the mailing list clear) but if you can't issues track, then fallback to emailing here. When ready, we'll hopefully be deploying this new version to a new server too, so it's all moving hopefully forwards. Thanks for your help everyone. Kiel Hackfest

Hi Inkscaper's, We'll be holding a hackfest in Kiel, Germany in September (Sun, 2018- 09-09 through Thu, 2018-09-13). All members of the Inkscape community are encouraged to attend.[1] We already have 13 people signed up! If you are interested in attending, please add your name to the Attendees web page.[2] We're handling financial support a bit different this time. The board has decided to reimburse travel expenses up to $2000 per person with no specific requirement on number of commits and length of community participation. However, the board will need to include your name in a vote so you will need to sign up before the meeting. New tools for team communication

Hi everyone! I'm very active this weekend. Sorry about it! Mihaela: Gitlab is great for collaborate with code but it's not for graphic design process. I have find and interesting app that can help us, it has an unlimited free plan. We can share mockups and leave feedback. It has 3 differents role types and you can see files like a guest. Take a look to an example board that I create for testing. https://app.conceptboard.com/board/58go-o3n8-iz3g-n7us-4roc ------- Have you disscused the possibility of migrate these comunications to a most friendly environment like Slack or RocketChat? So we can use @mentions or divide conversations by topic or silence notifications, etc.

Transform document create a transform to root layers

Hi all. When we add a transform to a document the root layers become transformed. I realy dont know why this transforms, is a unnecesary feature (basicaly the transform invert the document transform in the Y axis) Sometimes a user want one direction and sometimes other, usualy is ignored because reposition of draw. So in my point of view is better remove this "hidden" transform. To put one place I find today this boring thing: * I do a mockup for a web * Copy a icon in it to a new doc * Resize document to s ex: 32x32px. * Move the icon to the center * Work on it big time * Going to publish but problems because your container layer has a transform ex: in Y=200.22414234 * Preview the file in browser. contours are not aligned to pixel even with PixelSnap extension * After sometimes maybe have look and find the way: 1.- remove layer transform 2.- move the nodes to final position with node tool (cross fingers is not a group, if is a group, deep ungroop and move all nodes (loose group nestings)) 3.- apply pixelsnap or rounder. Any other has the same problem? Whats the comunity opinion to remove this transform? Regards, Jabier.

Missing icons seen on building inkscape from source using Eclipse Oxygen1 IDE

I have built inkscape using latest stable inkscape source 0.92.3.tar.gz I am using CMake 3.11.4 to generate the project files for Eclipse, on Lubuntu 16.04 (stable version).Subsequent to generating the project files, i am able to succesfully invoke the solution in Eclipse Oxygen1 CDT . Now i am building the project , it gets built. People, Recently I had quite a bit of help with fixing problems in drawings that came via DWG -> PDF: https://sourceforge.net/p/inkscape/mailman/inkscape-user/?viewmonth=201806&… I see there have been many posts over the years about developing a CAD version of Inkscape - with suggested changes to the code for v1.2, that should be more easily done? ie A separated backend "engine" with appropriate "frontend"?
