Inkboard - RPM for first release

Rose-Hulman team here again. We're in the process of making our initial release of the Inkboard project. The first question is, how important is it to have binaries(RPMs) for a release? Will most people want the source code anyways? A related issue, we having problems creating the RPM. I'm not sure if it's a lack of understanding of RPMs or something to do with Inkscape on the dev machine. New CVS ebuild for Inkscape

Hi all, I made some changes for myself to the ebuild I found in the wiki, but thought it would be good to share them with everyone else too. It was a couple of weeks ago, but this is what I remember I did: * Updated the dependencies to the ones in the Inkscape 0.41 ebuild currently in Gentoo bugzilla. * Changed the "x86" keyword to "~x86" -- a CVS ebuild should definitely not have a stable keyword. * Changed "econf || die" to "econf ${G2CONF} || die" so that USE flags actually work. profiling clone deletion

Surprised me, actually; sp_repr_prev() only showed up at 7%, and it was only called 10000 times. So that means my speculations last night were largely wrong. But I guess this is a good illustration (for those following along at home) why it's good to profile rather than assume. ^^; But anyway... pondering how best to optimize things now. Suggestions welcome. I'm a bit reluctant to do the obvious and have every SPObject keep e.g. a hashtable of Node/SPObject mappings for its children, as that would come at a very heavy memory cost. At least for _removeObjectDescendants and sp_object_get_child_by_repr(), we may also be able to call them less in the first place... -mental

It was inspired by Beez Bezier animator: http://beez.sourceforge.net/ I also use Flash 2, but I think it's interface a little annoying (huge buttons) and so are its tools. (I still like it, though.) I just noticed that someone is actually working on an animation extension for Inkscape. It's called Spalah Flash: http://spalah.sourceforge.net/?p=2&m=25&go= Yeah, my mock-up shows the world that I don't know anything about programming. Animation is a complicated task. 1. It shows only the last selected object, not the entire selection. So to preview a whole icon made of several objects, i have to group them and select the view. Very inconvenient. 2. There must be some way to set the background color of the dialog. The perception of an icon changes a lot with different backgrounds, and it would be nice to be able to preview different backgrounds in the dialog, without changing the document. 3. Please provide at least the size labels for the buttons. 4. Please make it auto updating on selection changes and modifications, without having to press Update.

Opera 8 native SVG support

Version 8 of the Opera Web Browser is in beta. http://www.opera.com/linux/changelogs/800b3/ One of the new features is support for SVG 1.1 Tiny, which is what makes this worth posting. With any luck this will serve as a kick in the ass for the Firefox Web Browser and they will also get their act together and support SVG. Postscript Gradient Export

Hello Inkscape Developer! I attached a patch for Inkscape to allow it to export both linear and radial gradients subject to all transformations I could think of. I had some problems with GhostView rendering some radial gradients when the focus of the gradient is outside the actual object it fills. But I think it is a bug in GhostScript and not my understanding of PostScript.
